agree, don't care if Rafa manages for himself or his CV, with his determination to win he will drag Newcastle along with him and finally we may win something.

Love reading Keys comments, the more success we have the more we get under his skin.

Fuck me sideways

Agree. The worry is that last time they came up they were full of beans and did well for a time...beating us 5-1 of course. Hopefully we'll have improved a lot by then.
Yep, we need this year to be one where we do actually make progress for a change.

Of course we know he prefers a pragmatic approach (which is why he is such a good knockout manager) but he can take the initiative when he wants to.

Any kind of approach would be a step forward considering what we have had for the last, say, 5 1/2 years.

hes done well with teams built by others (inter.chelsea)... but your going to need a rebuild,
as many of your current squad wont make the drop.
his record in the transfer market is the thing that would concern me.... even building a championship squad.

I kind of meant wages etc. I think he'll offer players outlandish pay increases to get the mercenary bassas to stay, possibly Rafa as well. They have the resources to do it as Ashley is a billionaire. This would be wholly unfair like, but that is modern football I'm afraid. Just my thoughts.
How's this fit with FFP, I see the football league has just lifted the embargo imposed on Fulham signing players.

I've mentioned it earlier in the thread, even with the expected outgoings I don't think the squad needs too much surgery. Possibly a decent combative midfielder for that level and a centre-forward that knows the division.

Other than that, we should have more than enough to compete near the top. I've watched The Championship this (last?) season and the standard really isn't enough to worry me.

foward(s) ...reckon Mitrovic will get loaned out, ball winning def mid, winger(Townsend will activate his get out), 2 CB, LB.

First teamers?

The Townsend thing is guesswork. More than likely, yes, but still guesswork.

We've got Mitrovic (potentially), Armstrong, Perez (potentially), Riviere (I know) and Toney as forwards at the minute. I'd like to see us go for someone like Gary Hooper for experience at this level if we do shift some of that.

Lovenkrands, Carroll and Ameobi alonsgside Nolan scoring from midfield were more than enough the last time we went down.

How did a manage to forget about the comments will check on next break

17.5m for Glen Johnson. Not a bad player but 17.5.

I have said it before. He is entirely the wrong manager to get them back up. For Villa away Bruce, Micmac, Big Sam, Pullis etc. would have got a victory. They face 23 "villa away" type scenarios where the opposition shut up shop. It will be class if Sissoko, "Gini" and Townsend stay because they will seldom turn up.

Because they are only going to be in the championship for one season of course. By the time FFP catches up with them, they'll be long gone - or so they hope.

experienced championship players that could make the step up if promoted.... would be the sensible requirement RB should look for across the board

AT might put himself in shop window during the euros

Sterling was at QPR but hadn't signed Pro forms, his agent touted him all over the Premiership and it was said he would move to the highest payer, which was Liverpool. He instantly became the highest paid teenager in the league. (Which made Liverpool's whining about him leaving "for the highest payer" at the end of his contract a tad hypocritical).

I'm pretty sure whoever was manager must have known about him / the deal.
Aye but Rafa will have had next to fuck all say really about youth recruitment how many managers do ? Be left to others

We've already got two decent centre-halves should we hold on to both Mbemba and Lascelles. Look a bit inexperienced beyond that (Sterry and Good) so I'd look for an experienced player for the duration of the season (similar to Fitz Hall and Mike Williamson (who was longer term) last time).

I'll agree with Townsend at the Euros, if he does leave that's fair enough. I don't think he'll get much game time.

It seems that a fair section of this board was incredulous at his selection yesterday but now it could be used for him to leave Newcastle is his selection fully supported?
