I'd put Newcastle and Villa on an even keel. Similar sized clubs. Villa aren't much bigger.

Okay. They've only won many more trophies and spent much more time at the top level than Newcastle, but Newcastle are of a similar size?

He throws out this line frequently along with his 'angry' shite.

The bloke is a shit house who lives his sad existence on here.

How frequent? Show me some links please. There was another Newcastle fan accusing you of this (The Fish) the other day, could you be getting mixed up with him?

Could do but why would he sabotage something he already owns? Until we see the accounts for 2015/16 he hasn't put a penny in since we were in the Championship, the club has been self-sufficient.
Due to having Premier League football. He spent the TV money up front, and you've been relegated. That now needs to be covered, plus what it will cost to get back up. He's out of pocket before a ball has been kicked.

He probably thinks the £100+ million already owed to him is more than enough to "put in".

If the alternative was administration and doing a Leeds or Portsmouth, then yes, I would.

The biggest mistake he has made in the last 12 months was appointing McClaren, and all owners make mistakes.

Total conjecture, you have no idea of what would have happened had Ashley not stepped in.

Would you have Ashley at Sunderland?
I don't know but if he'd been here I'd like to think I'd have cut him more slack than he's been given at your place.
He spent £80 million, maybe those signings didn't work out but not many of you were complaining at the time.
Do you think Short has been perfect for us?

Fair enough but there's no point saying Ashley has 'put cash in' and he's 'put his hand in his pocket' when that's untrue and has been since 2009.

I think the level of NUFC debt means its a bit more than conjecture.

But you don't know what would have happened, someone else could have come in with more loftier ambitions or The Venkys could have bought us. There's no certainty that we would have done a 'Leeds or Portsmouth' so it's foolish to make out that that was the only alternative.

What's the latest? Can't be arsed to look through the thread when there's an Ashley in/out discussion
Looks like he's staying on £5 million a year. However we will all be told it's because he understands.

Careful now, that's almost praising him.

No, you've accused me of being angry plenty of times in the past or are you denying that?

You sad mags seem to get the meaning of angry wrong relatively frequently.

That's why I said "if the alternative was administration and doing a Leeds or Portsmouth". As you say, it could have went either way, but what do you really think would have happened? These mystery buyers could have easily snapped up Leeds or Sheff Wed for instance, but for some reason they didn't, so what makes you think there would have been some multi billionaire (other than Ashley) ready to step in and buy Newcastle?

If I'm being honest I'm not sure you would have. He's presided over 2 relegations (we've only been relegated 6 times in our entire history). We've gone from having regular European Football to more often than not fighting relegation. He's employed people like Dennis Wise, Joe Kinnear (twice) and Alan Pardew in key positions. Thoroughly unlikeable people. He's also promoted a club secretary way beyond his capacity who has been found to be a total incompetent.

He's plastered the ground with his tacky logo, even going so far as renaming the ground at one point and using it later on as a good-will chip for a new sponsorship deal with a equally reprehensible loan company. He's also removed most of the team photos from the 15-year period prior to his reign when we enjoyed better times.

That's just for starters.

Again, yes we've spent that money on transfers but until the accounts come out, the club has spent that money. Not him.

Of course I don't think Short is perfect (us, yourselves and Aston Villa have been run horrifically over the last few years) but you only have to look on here after a few consecutive defeats and there are multiple calls for Short to sell up which gives me a decent stab at suggesting that you wouldn't give Ashley the slack that you are suggesting.

You should have no problem showing me then.
