Everything spent over the last 6 years has been generated through TV money, trading players and large match day revenue. Mike Ashley hates the club and hasn't given it a penny in that time, just used it for marketing and pr.

Getting promoted was the easy part after a poor failing of his first task he was given which was to survive relegation. In fact, it's so easy with the depth they have etc it's barely an achievement worth gloating about when they do come up. (Yes, they will be promoted as champions quite easily. Anything else is very worrying for them).

The real challenge would be how well does he do when he comes up against the premier league teams every week.
