Exactly.

You'd choose St Johnstone before you chose us man

Bigger club, top half Premier League club, better squad, large loyal fanbase, and a much better manager.

I love that bigger club argument, yet no one can actually define what makes a bigger club.

Top half club despite finishing on the same points as Bournemouth and Palace.

You's need to start realising you's are not this footballing super power and if anything recently seen as a yoyo club.

I don't understand what is so funny about that as it was based on Fulham being promoted.

Two clubs in the same division, one is based in the capital city, has a wealthier chairman that looks like he's willing to invest, a better youth set up and a club on the up.

The other based up north, has a tight wage structure, a chairman who wants out and doesn't appear to be willing to invest anything further, but a bigger ground.

I know who i would choose!

Two clubs in the North East, one is in the premiership, has a well liked manager, full house every game, one is in league 1, no manager, half empty stadium, who would you support?
It's not all black and white is it?

I know we're not a footballing superpower, but a club's "bigness" is a factor in a footballer's decision. Which is why Burnley will find it harder to attract quality players ahead of teams that they finished above, like Everton. Why Leeds are more attractive than Brentford.

Top half finish because of our GD because Benitez played ultra defensive against Man City, which drew severe criticism from pundits. Because Benitez played pragmatic football which was applauded and appreciated by the Newcastle fans despite them demanding cavalier 4-3 football.

Never really understood the big love in the mags have with Rafa, apart from the fact he’s previously managed some big clubs and they do love a name.

Unless I’m mistaken, he inherited an underperforming mid table squad, had the easiest of run ins and failed to keep them up. Two year later, he now has them mid table with a squad that isn’t as good as the one he inherited, and that includes the keeper and winger that are only on loan. The style of football he has churned out is not very easy on the eye to say the least and all he ever says in interviews is that he needs more money.

He has spent nearly £100m in his few years there and the only decent players at the club, were already there when he arrived. Admittedly thats not net spend, but he’s still responsible for spending the cash whilst lowering the quality of the squad. The money he spent at clubs like Liverpool was breathtaking at the time and he bought more duds than quality.

Rafa has been found out and Newcastle are probably his level, can’t really see a big club wanting to take a chance on him again, and why would he want to move when he’s getting £6m a year, all the credit for winning and none of the stick for losing.

He’d be a fool to move and I wouldn’t be that bothered if he stayed, but the mag melt down if he does leave would be quite entertaining.

fwiw there's a bunch of interlinked criteria that can define a club's "bigness". I bet you could list a good 10-12 big clubs in England without pause. Some won't have won anything in years, some have only won things recently, others have a modest regular attendance...

This shit really bothers you mags, huh?

Your fourth paragraph might not be far from the truth.

we';ve won more in the last 60 years and have bigger attendances?

This shit really bothers you mags, huh?
Doesn't particularly both me.

But a club's size does matter to footballers, is remarked upon by pundits, managers and players, and as a facet of how attractive a club is to a player I think it's worth a mention. It's also a common topic on various clubs' message boards, twitter and down their pubs.

Were you inferring that I was wanting to get into a conversation about which club is bigger, West Ham or Newcastle?

Post of the year for me. It perfectly sums up the bizarre hero worship that the weirdos have for 'Saint Rafa'.

You see twitter ablaze because Ian Abrahams off talksport had the temerity to state West Ham are a bigger club than Newcastle. He's not only got Newcastle fans biting, but neutrals too. Even west Ham fans are biting at the bites. He should be very pleased with himself.

Is that the official criteria.60 years and higher attendances. We think it's 45 years.

Man City fan did a poll with 5000 answers about who was biggest

1 Everton
2 West Ham
3 Newcastle

It all sounds like guys with small cocks measuring from the back of the balls...

Pretty sure it was "BroadcastMoose".

either way, talkSport will be ripping their cocks off with glee as twitterwarriors up and down the country "get involved in the debate*"

*call each other names and trot out cliches about each others' clubs.

What was his criteria? Or was it a straight question?

It mostly is, for the fans. Do think it's a factor for players though. They want to play for prestigious clubs which is why, like I say, Burnley will find it harder to attract quality than Everton will.
