Am I the only one that thinks the jail terms being mentioned are way WAY over the top?

Apart from the tw@t who pushed the bloke the others were singing 'we're racist' while not actually doing anything to the bloke.
I've seen clips of asian men shouting much worse than 'we're racist' with the police actually protecting them and letting them shout what the want.

I'm not saying they should not be punished with a ban, but 3 years in prison?

Whilst I cant stand racist folk, potentially jailing idiots for singing is mental.

"There is no suggestion that either was involved in the pushing of the passenger or the racist chanting. " buried half way in the article.

The person pictured isn't on video as pushing the man off the train or singing the song...so I'm hoping there is definitely clearer evidence.

Scum though they are it's because they're English and an English team. Other country's supporters are far worse and do a lot more but just goes under the radar and unpunished

I think this is worst than most. Shouting at a football game from the stands trying to put off oppositons players, in some cases even using racist language is one thing. No excuses for that also. But doing things like that to people on the street on your way home, pushing them out of trains and shouting racist abuse, is far worst IMO.

The guy who gave those quotes was the other person identified yesterday who did an interview with BT Sport, I don't believe this second person in the Daily Mail article has given any quotes himself?

Its possible (as they admit halfway down) that he might have done nothing wrong and may just have been on the train; that hasnt stopped them plastering his name and picture all over the country and even telling us what school he went to and how much it costs (as if its relevant), in addition to contacting his employer for comment. Pretty disgraceful, could seriously affect the lads life. Id have no problem with him losing his job if found guilty, and could understand them printing details if they had them of the bloke who did the pushing, but to publicly identify this lad seems irresponsible

Exactly you start reading the article under the impression he is involved only for it to state half way down that he could only be a witness,if people do not read that far down which will happen,they could have a totally wrong opinion of him and like you say could easily effect his life.

Dont worry mate, most of us read your post properly and easily understood it; alas there are also a lot of people who want to use threads like this to make sure everyone knows in no uncertain terms just how right on they are and they'll jump on posts like yours without bothering to read them properly in an attempt to do so

The lad who pushed him should be done for racially aggrevated assault (assuming they prove the racist element of it in court) , im not sure if that carries a jail term but if it does then (and id imagine it would) thats fair enough. The other lads i dont think should be punished though. Are they arseholes for singing it? Yes. But im not sure that just singing "we're racist" should be reason for a football banning order nevermind a jail term

In France, so surely French law takes precedence? If he'd been caught shoplifting on camera would the UK police be lookign to bring theft charges or would they leave it to the French?
