Racist away fans (again)

Our fans are a group of people so some of them will be arseholes, we've all seen them, we all have an arsehole at work or the arsehole in our circle of friends. Unfortunately every group has an arsehole or two. Thats just life but I dont want to clumped in with them either.

Racism has no place in society today, Bananas/Monkeys everyone knows what the folk that use that sort of language are on about. Iv heard racsim at the SOL before im sure I will again some people wont change or are too set in there ways or just ignorant. People wonder why a footy player has never come out as gay, the arsehole would jump on it.

Unfortunately there is always AN arsehole.

Unless someone has the bravery to challenge people at the time its hard to police.

But im sure its less than 1% of our fanbase so we are not racist away fans.

It was viewable earlier, so he's either deleted the account, or he's been banned.

Can't be deleted, his name is still on his posts on this thread. Must be banned (or the mods are protecting him by preventing taggings and profile viewings).

Either that or he's got me on ignore and that prevents me. (No idea if the ignore function works that way.)

What makes you think it isnt ok now? Tell you what we have in this country - free speech. Try it sometime. If words are going to hurt you that much I'd suggest you wont be lasting very long on here or in England.

The word "banana" and you lose the plot? Absolutely pathetic. FFS.

Piss off.

"free speech" doesn't allow folk to be outright racist you f***ing idiot. It also doesn't allow folk to be homophobic or share their support of terrorist organisations etc etc.

I'll be honest. I'm not planning on reading all 40 pages but I don't believe this even happened. I'm sure the OP regularly hears things on his travels.

That doesn't take away from the fact that this post, right here, is arguably the worst I've ever seen on here.

"free speech" is a myth created by arseholes that need a defence to use when sharing their uninvited, ill-informed opinion.

Wow.

40 pages and i've read every one shaking my head. Who is MBH btw?

Firstly on the topic of racism - I have heard odd comments from Sunderland fans at games. I once got into an argument with someone about it as he was calling an opposition player a 'f***ing black c***' and then singing the Jermain Defoe song moments later. When I mentioned that to him I got told to predictably 'fuck off' and threatened with violence from him and his mate. Both intoxicated. It's only the odd comment here and there but it's disgusting. Have heard arguments from other groups of people that usually have had enough and confronted someone when it's over and over again from the same person. I do tend to find it's worse when we are losing.

It is racist what the bloke said and it should not be accepted. How anybody can genuinely believe that black people are in some way lower because of skin colour is disturbing and sad. If they just say it and don't mean it then that's even worse. No place whatsoever. It cannot be defended.

As for Mr Jardine. I always believed he was some sort of weird antagonist on here. He tends to wind people up and deliberately have the opposite narrative to get on people's nerves. On this occasion he has outdone himself. If he properly believes what he's saying he needs to be banned permanently from here. Because he isn't personally offended by something then it's almost acceptable or people don't have the right to call someone out on it? Unbelievable.

Buchans Boots should be banned.

Everyone has a limit on what they deem acceptable, and what they deem not. This particular comment seems to fall either side of that line for different people.

One thing I can't quite fathom is how anyone could get themselves worked up over another person getting offended by or taking exception to the comment. Can you honestly not see how it might be offensive?

I'm only halfway down page 12, by the way.

Just you f***ing wait, I'd get the popcorn.

Buchans Boots should be banned.

You may know him as one of:

My Boy Harry
The Balanced View
Buchanans Boots

I assume he changes username as he keeps getting banned?

There is a certain irony that he fails to see in using names such as the 'the balanced view' and 'the voice of reason'. I mean just how up yourself do you have to be to consider your singular personal view as 'balanced' or your particular personal views to 'reasoned'? I would argue those terms could only be accorded by someone other than yourself.

He thinks we should be forcibly evicting foreigners from the country and often turns up on threads like this acting as an apologist for the alleged racist and having a go at the poster who called it in the first place instead.

For what its worth, I have kept off this thread today, as stayed over in Derby after the game yesterday and have been travelling back then doing some work round the house. I have twice reported racist comments at Sunderland games myself, once at Fratton Park and more recently last year at the SOL. On neither occasion did the police take the blindest bit of interest and on both occasions the culprits not only got away with it, but the culprit at Fratton park was permitted to continue the offences in the second half.

The request for 'evidence' and video footage is quite frankly pathetic. Who goes to a football game and films their own fans on the off chance they turn out to be a racist idiot, just so you can then back up your statement of what you heard on a message board? To be frank, this is just stalling tactics and trying to turn the issue on its head and blame the whistle blower. Even if you doubt the incident occurred surely the base human reaction would be to condemn the sentiment in the statement? At least that would be the base reaction if you are not a racist.

You can argue all you like whether this happened or it didn't. I was at the game alongside 1800 other Sunderland fans and I encountered nothing but good humour before, during and after the game, but if the OP says he heard the comment, who am I to say he didn't? Having been in the situation myself before I can't see what he has to gain my making something like that up?

It comes to something when someone reporting this stuff is not only not believed but actively ridiculed and hounded as a liar by people who were not even there. We have made a lot of progress on racism and other diversity issues but sadly there is a still an awful long way to go as this thread proves.

The Voice of Reason. Yes i've come across that moron a few times. I think I have him on my ignored list now after a few run-ins.

The voice of reason is a mod. It's not MBH.:lol:

Sorry if I have got that one wrong (particularly to the Voice of reason).

At the risk of a banning, Its still a bloody pretentious username in my option though (and maybe why I linked the two mistakenly!!:))

MBH (and his alter egos), posts some excellent history related stuff about the club and I share his interest in that and I just wish he would do more of that and leave the politics alone. He probably says the same about me though;).

You may be thinking of 'the voice of fair play' ....
.... only usually appears to back up Jardine.

Tell me if Maja trapped the ball will ya. Cheers in advance.

Very well composed piece GOM, but that particular poster downgraded everyone from a pit village, I am not having it.
What a f***ing snowflake, get that chip off your shoulder (I’m from a pit villlage)

I left there in 1977. Everyone was racist then. My mother, who I loved greatly, was unconsciously racist till her dying day. I'm probably going to get into trouble here. The white working class, in totality, is not generally racist. However, the proportion of racists within the white working class is probably disproportionately large. There are many reasons for this. Sometimes, in essentially monocultural areas, it's down to fear born of ignorance. It was striking to me in 2016 how many of the areas backing Brexit were areas of, comparatively, very low immigration. Other times, it's displacement, using other races as a punchbag for deprivation more often caused by government policy. I suspect that only in a minority of cases is it down to a belief in white supremacy.

I'm probably a member of the Guardian-reading (guilty), liberal elite, of course.
Nail on heed
