It has, though, reminded us that, no matter how much we might think we have progressed, the knuckleheads remain amongst us.

End of thread. It is no good cherry picking an odd sentence in on of your 67 posts in this thread, although it does seem to be a trait of yours to deflect and justify.
You might not think you are a racist, people can only judge by the comments you make, they include...
- Admitting a racist comment was probably made but claimed you don't give a fuck whilst questioning why the comment was offensive.
- You wouldn't be offended and outraged if monkey noises were aimed at black people and compared it to a Mexican wave.
- You are unable to differentiate the difference between a banana being thrown at Barnes and a pie at Ginola.
- You believe respect for other races is only the domain of ‘advanved’ (sic) Lefty elite and dismissing it as irrelevant.
- You denied knowing there was systematic racial discrimination by the UK government resulting in UK citizens being deported from their own country.
- Repeatedly justifying the Atlantic Slave Trade because blacks did it first.
- Falsely claiming the Barbary slave trade was North Africans enslaving white people in North Africa, a deliberate misreading of history.
- Continued the right wing myth that Black people do not succeed because they do not want to.
- Repeatedly alleging white people are discriminated against whilst offering no examples.
You might not think you are Racist but you are making a jolly good job of convincing others that you maybe one.
- Finally worst of all denying saying any of the above and declaring "I have said nothing remotely racist."
Well this thread has just about put me off this place altogether. Utter scum some people here.
I suspect it's more he's a perfect example of someone brought up in a monoculture. While are higher minority populations in the North East now than when I was growing up (I didn't meet or chat socially with any Afro-Caribbeans or Asians until I was at university), the proportion is still far lower than in almost any other metropolitan area. What that can result in is unthinking racism born of lack of exposure to other cultures, and, more particularly, a lack of awareness of what is offensive to minority populations. Of course, in some other areas, it can lead to an informed racism as exemplified by the EDL, where the racism is as a result of encouragement to believe that minorities are either becoming majorities or are in some way favoured by "the system"; this, to my mind, is more offensive.
The "pit village" references were totally clunky, by the way (not that it was you who made them). I don't believe for one moment that they're a hot bed of racism. What is possible, though, is that someone with those attitudes might not be called out for it in the same way as they would in a more cosmopolitan environment.
I found the pit village reference personally disgusting, as if we were something beneath his tolerance/education. I doubt the Grammar fuck pig would say anything like that to me face to face
I hear what you say, and I can see why it upset you. That's why I said it was clunky- maybe hamfisted would be better. I grew up in the 60's and 70's, when racism was unthinking and essentially ignored. It's only with hindsight that "comedies" like "Love thy Neighbour" and "Mind Your Language" make you cringe. I was growing up on a working class estate, and those attitudes were normal. What changed me was exposure to those other cultures, having fellow undergraduates from those cultures, and understanding how things like that affected them directly. The villages remain largely monocultural (as does the estate I grew up on), and thus it's less likely that someone growing up with racist attitudes will have them challenged. I'm a long way from saying that they are institutionally racist; in fact, I don't believe they are at all. What they are is unexposed, compared to people who live in, say, Birmingham, Bristol, or especially London, to other cultures.
Very well composed piece GOM, but that particular poster downgraded everyone from a pit village, I am not having it.
One thing I often see on here is the phrase "people getting offended for the sake of it" used to describe anyone who responds or reacts to something that is posted and dicussed.
Usually in regards to politics, racism or something reported in the press.
It often baffles me,because firstly I've observed the more right leaning posters use it all the time and this thread just confirms it.
Secondly what do they actually mean by the phrase?
It's often used without substance as well.
Do some really think that by actually commenting and expressing a view of Maja having a racial slur directed against them is being offended for the sake of it?
Whed often does it on the politics forum, usually after posting a link from twitter. "Folk just being offended" is a common retort.
Can't work this place out at times
I fully understand. Generalising is beyond stupid. Having said that, I'd say that the estate I grew up on was well over its quota on meatheads![]()
Were they racists? I am not keen on generalising the white working class as racists. This is often implied on main stream media, the Gaurdian, the Liberal elite and maybe on here.I fully understand. Two points pal-No one gives two fucks. And its only by raising such an insignificant issue from one person in the crowd that this sort of shite gets a platform. Ignore the fuckers and they will go away. Stop being offended over the slightest thing. f***ing ridiculous.
Right,so you are a friend of MBH.How good a friend?Erm hold on a minute here I've not once defended the racist idiot(s) from yesterday....

You’ve just either misquoted or totally misrepresented nearly everything I’ve said on this thread in one post.It is no good cherry picking an odd sentence in on of your 67 posts in this thread, although it does seem to be a trait of yours to deflect and justify.

Boo f***ing hoo.I found the pit village reference personally disgusting, as if we were something beneath his tolerance/education. I doubt the Grammar fuck pig would say anything like that to me face to face
Excellent reply sir.I left there in 1977. Everyone was racist then. My mother, who I loved greatly, was unconsciously racist till her dying day. I'm probably going to get into trouble here. The white working class, in totality, is not generally racist. However, the proportion of racists within the white working class is probably disproportionately large. There are many reasons for this. Sometimes, in essentially monocultural areas, it's down to fear born of ignorance. It was striking to me in 2016 how many of the areas backing Brexit were areas of, comparatively, very low immigration. Other times, it's displacement, using other races as a punchbag for deprivation more often caused by government policy. I suspect that only in a minority of cases is it down to a belief in white supremacy.
I'm probably a member of the Guardian-reading (guilty), liberal elite, of course.
Boo f***ing hoo.
Have you cried to your Mam about it?![]()

Your first qoute is correct and I wouldn’t be alone in this.
I said it would get on by nerves in the same way a Mexican wave would but it wouldn’t offend me although it certainly isn’t something I’d do.
I look at both cases as out of order.
