Racism at Yorkshire CCC

What’s the reference to “Kevin” and why is it derogatory to black people? It’s not something I’ve seen or heard of before.
They asked him that and he didn't know the origins himself. It's not something I've heard before like
It's pretty common from when I was in school etc. when lads with names that were "too difficult" to say, people would give them "english" names, like steve, kevin, tom etc. I've seen football fans do it as well.

Seems Root was weak and didn't stand up for his teammate. Which makes him culpable in a way. But if he apologizes then I am sure he can move on. The real problem isn't Root.
Certainly around the time of Vaughan's comments I don't think any blame can be put on Root. If he was even there, he'll have been 17/18 years old and we're expecting him to go up to the England captain, senior pro and say "I think that's a bit off". The senior players, coaches and officials should be setting the tone not the kids. Though obviously it requires everyone to create the right environment.

Jesus this is even worse than I’d imagined. Really bleak.

It’s not surprising that Yorkshire have spent so long trying to keep this out of the public eye. Their attempts to avoid it becoming public points towards the validity of it too imo.

Didn’t Watmore resign from the ECB after a very short time? Was it linked to this and what he found when he was there? Speculation I know but it did seem strange that he left when he did.

absolutely, but as England captain it's clearly going to run and run.
Agree that it's a far wider/bigger issue than Root not speaking up

Rafiq has said similar today. You'd hope that Root will now be strong enough to apologise.

Shame on the ECB & PCA
Very good for not letting the ECB off the hook from Rafiq.

The PCA stuff is disgraceful. If a union can't stand by the people its supposed to represent, it should be disbanded - it has no purpose.

It's the allegation that he pretended he'd never heard anything at Yorkshire that means he has serious questions to answer. I mean: it's a lie isn't it? He lived with Ballance.

I don't think Rafiq is seriously holding him to account for not doing something in the dressing room. But to pretend it didn't exist? It's pretty serious and quite possible he should resign. I don't like that outcome, because his values convince me that they are in the right place on this. But, it's very, very serious.

It isn't a trope, it's just a racist in-joke created by Gary Ballance in the Yorkshire dressing room to describe non-white people.

Rafiq alleges Alex Hales - a good mate of Ballance - called his black dog Kevin, as part of the joke.

Prick.

His point about how its Yorkshire who have consistently pushed the story towards individuals when he has tried to focus it on the institutional culture of the club itself, was very convincing to me.

Really damning stuff. Unfortunately the names mentioned so far are not too much of a surprise as being shithouses. I have only been half listening to some of it as been working at the same time but did I hear bumble's name mentioned? Not sure if it was the same thing but around the time they mentioned getting subs from Asian players as getting blood from a stone.

There is a very good thread here on Twitter following the hearing, for those that are not able to watch
