Think about all of those scientists and the people who have "done their own research".

Yeah that’s phrase I’ve seen thrown around quite a bit by conspiracy nutters. Again, the ones who weren’t high achievers in school but like to ‘make up’ for that later in life with an “I know more than you, I’m not a thickie sheep like you” approach to their argument.

This business with the covid vaccines is perfect grist for the anti vax conspiracy nutters who have spent their entire lives without giving any thought to medical science, probably been vaccinated many times as a bairn, taken countless medicines for a plethora of ailments over the years but have now suddenly “done their own research” (watched a bit of YouTube) and know more about virology, vaccinations and the medical research process behind how they’ve been developed than people who have spent their entire lives working in that field.

I know a woman who doesn’t trust the vaccine cos “it’s still experimental” when well over a hundred million American adults have been vaccinated with minimal related adverse events. Concurrently she seems quite happy for her mother who has cancer to be undergoing chemo with an experimental treatment that has at this stage been used in a number of humans that may not have reached double figures yet.

Don't you feel a bit miffed that some conspiracy theorist just dismisses everything you've ever learned or put into practice in your work and life? But then I think of other times in my life. I remember a Burnley fan I knew during the Reid 105 point season. But every single time I saw this Burnley fan they would be there going on and on and on about how shit Sunderland were, how much better Burnley was, mocking our crowds, saying we couldn't score a goal, saying we had no fans and no football history. They were a friend of a house mate so sometimes hard to avoid, but they would put in special efforts to talk to me. I felt so lucky. One weekend I got back from being at the match. "Oh you went, I bet it was lonely, shit club no fans, did you manage to even get the ball in the opposition half, bet you didn't score. Sunderland will never be as good as Burnley." My response "Thanks, it was a good game, there was over 40,000 there and we beat Oxford 7-0." Even then, on and on they went about how much better Burnley was. We finished top on 105 points and nearly hit 100 goals. They had average crowds of about 14k and finished 15th in the third tier.

No matter what the actual truth was, they couldn't or wouldn't see it and seemed obsessed about how much better they thought Burnley was than us. But at the end of the day, no matter what I said would not change it. Show them the league table, couldn't admit what was in front of their face. At the end of the day, they were a Burnley fan and we had Quinn & Phillips dominating the league. At some point you have to stop engaging and walk away shaking your head thinking "moron". I don't see this as much different. No matter how many times he screams "no proof at all", we all know there is, it is just he can not or will not understand and is a feeble failure on an intellectual level. Nowt to worry about.

I've read through it.
It tells me nothing about a global reality from what we actually observe.
The observation from the ship to ship and lower and higher deck simply suggests to me that higher elevation allows more light back to the eye due to angle of view from elevation, rather than a less angle from lower deck that stops light getting back to the eye because of more dense mass of atmosphere.


This makes sense on a flat or flattish ocean, it makes absolutely no sense on a globe. No sense at all.

Let's reason why.
Let's assume two people with scopes were in a crows nest on two separate ships. One going over a supposed curve and the other doing likewise but in the opposite direction..
Both people are looking at the other ship and each other.

If the Earth was a globe then each ship would be said to be disappearing from view, hull first and mast last.
If this was the case then it's pretty clear that for the masts to be last they also have to be angled away from the observer, so this would be the case for both ships and both crows nests and also both observers with scopes.

This means that both observers would actually be looking up at the sky as those ships moved over and down the curve, assuming a level set up of those scopes on the crows nest and taking into account ocean swell which would slightly raise and lower the view a little.

This clearly doesn't happen because they are simply not on an ocean that curves convexly.
They would see each other in real time because they are looking through scopes which are generally levelled and aimed at each other on a fairly level ocean barring some swell, on a calm day. And at a height which offers them a much clearer view than at deck height.


None of the globe stuff makes any sense and these are some of the reasons why.
People are just coerced and coaxed into taking leave of their own logical senses in favour of explanations that are utter gobbledygook. IMHO.

Arrange the centre of the rule such that it touches the centre of the horizon looking directly out. You will see the horizon to the outer most sides of the rule are slightly lower than this straight edge. The curve is in all three dimensions, not just diminishing into the distance.

Curvature within a bath is measured in micrometers, something not perceptible to the human eye.
Scale this up to something which is and it’s obvious even to your natural sense of eyesight.
