Promotion or Selling Players

What do you think the aim of the ownership group is?
Do get promotion or to develop players and sell at a profit?
On one hand, we have made great strides as a club in 4 years in league position, on the other hand it seems like we never take a risk to go for it compared to even other non parachute payment clubs.
Would the owners prefer to see us go up or to sell players for a profit so less investment is needed from them to run the club?
Before anyone says they want both - that is obvious - but I mean which would they prioritise?
The owners are happy to cover a modest loss but compared to other owners in the league, they do not seem to want to invest funds into the club.

If we fail to go up, the sale of Watson, probable sale of Bellingham, and just possibly one more player that we value (as well as some of the dead wood such as Ekwah or Aouchiche) will possibly rake in around £40m
That's a lot of money for Speakman to play with in the Summer and i would expect the end product come this August would be that the squad is looking stronger again.
Then we might be able to give automatic promotion a good go, promotion has to be the end goal eventually.
We would probably need a change of Manager though (one who is not so negative) to get the very best out of our attacking players.

They haven't spent much in transfers, not enough to challenge for promotion, but enough to keep the team competitive and hoping a couple of the young stars to break through. Slim chance of promotion with huge reward, or if not, a huge profit from sales leaving the team no worse than it was at the start of the season. Rinse and repeat, we are the new Darlo. Well done to changing the club from a knackers retirement home to a football factory, it's all part of the changes we needed, but now it's time to build a team full of players that want to be SAFC players next season and beyond. That's the big difference between our players and Coventry's players.

I think they’re scared because there would be an expectation to spend all of that and even then a likelihood of relegation and so the financial margins of error and potential personal losses much higher.

If they had any intention to risk their personal funds this would not be an issue but the budget billionaire will neither shit nor get off the pot.

Part of me thinks that there might be a few more this summer, so if we announce it in April we might forget that this one happened by September when there is an expectation the money will be spent.

I think the end goal has always been the same.
We have good young players at the moment that some top clubs have their eye on such as Rigg, Bellingham, Watson, Mayenda etc..
But at the moment there's not enough of them.
It will take more time, but i'm sure at some point soon we will have a team full at least, with a few old heads mixed in (hopefully because you need that experience)
Get promoted and like Brighton the calibre of young player we bring in will increase and take it from there.
The Model is the way to go and i hope it isn't abandoned, i'm sure it will pay off one day soon.
 
The so called model is based on giving promising young players the opportunity to develop while playing lots of games in a short space of time, with the ultimate goal of the club is to sell on for a profit..That's ok to a certain extent if the club put the bulk of the money into building a better squad. However that's the part I'm really sceptical about...

It's a loss making game until they get to the prem then the value of the club goes up enough to be a good investment so ultimately they absolutely want promotion and I think the long term strategy to get there is the right one without gambling and overspending wildly one year with the risks that come with that.
I think it would be a tall order to get promoted next year though mo matter how much they pump in as you're having to replace up to 6 of the starting 11 for starters in cirkin, mepham, neil, jobe, rigg and le fee. Personally I think the strategy should move far more towards ready made pros to have a shot at promotion once we sell a few high value youngsters.

Our 'model' will always have a reset after 3-4 seasons, and we're coming to a stage where we have the likes of Jobe, Rigg, Hume, Neil, who I'm sure the club would look to sell for top money.
Behind them you have Aleksic, Hjelde, Poveda etc and big reliance on a really good summer transfer window, something which always seems to be a struggle.

I am still mad about this decision….this should have been quietly done announced after the season to me this is a disgrace and interference in our dressing room…
 
It'll be horrible to live through, but if the plan is to take all the cash on offer, sell the who want away when we get a good offer, and only buy prospects for another promoting run, then fair enough.

Might take a couple of bounces between the leagues to build up enough war chest to actually be able to step up and stay up.

If I owned the club, it's what is do.
But I wouldn't, because the fans would rip me to shreds.
