*~*~* Preston v Sunderland match thread *~*~*

Neil getting stick again and can’t judge because I haven’t seen the stream.
You would have thought though playing the role as the defensive midfielder protecting the back four and nine clean sheets in 14 games, there must be something he’s doing right.

He’s nowhere near as good or as bad as people make out. He’s a competent second tier player with some good attributes but with limitations even at the level. Same as Alan Browne.

It wasn't like Preston weren't trying to play and just defending. They were the better team for much of the game.
Thats what I was trying (badly) to say, they have nothing to lose so attack with numbers. A team at the top isnt so gung ho thinking a point against us right now is good.

Too many unforced changes that didn't work out. Jobe a big miss, Preston played very well but toothless. Results elsewhere have been ok so a point and a clean sheet away is a decent result, especially after an under par performance.

"Haters" is exactly the rhetoric trump uses when people rightfully criticise him. Neil plays in one of the key positions in a football team, so naturally is under the microscope. If he has a bad game it has the potential to put the defence under the cosh and also affect the attackers.

I think he only looks class when we are playing comfortably, he mostly folds under the pressure when it's a tough game. I think we signed Samed because the management knows we need alternatives to Neil, unfortunately for us he got injured.

I don't know why people can't handle professional footballers being criticised, especially when this is a forum in which the whole purpose is to share opinions on SAFC and it's players. Do you honestly think he played well tonight?
For some bizarre reason the same fan boys defend him week after week , it’s unbelievable really , it’s like a cult

I’m not talking about scoring. I’m saying we haven’t created any chances.
we havnt been all year though. Not MANY chances. We just converted an awful lot of them. I think it's part of RLB set up. Low block, dullish, but efficient and dangerous.in transitions. I think we'll see it all year unless we have a change in personnel

Defence very good, but midfield and attack quite poor.

Time to rest Dan Neil?
I don't think making Neil captain has worked, he just has not had the same form as he showed last season.
I'm not saying he should be relieved of it mind, but shame there wasn't a 'if it ain't broke don't fix it attitude'.

Another good point against a battling team which last season we would have lost easily.

Young team and new manager has us top of the league man. Not every game is going to be poetry.

Onwards and upwards
Exactly, we played shit tonight and still kept a clean sheet and it’s another point on the board

Has to be a win on Saturday though or that's a poor week for a playoff chasing side. Worried how we look without Jobe.
It’s been a lack of chances the last 2 games. Hull we weren’t great but we got into decent positions. Hopefully the home crowd can roar us home and back into a huge threat on Saturday. I really think RLB has got to look at making some better subs in midfield. We were crying out for a bit of creativity tonight yet Aleksic still didn’t come on
