press conference

My guess would be Strauss resigning or Pietersen central contract terminated.

If Strauss resigns, does that mean KP still has to have a clear the air meeting with him about the texts;-) or will Cook then have to be involved

More i think about it has to be Strauss, given his time away, then being given an extra week off yesterday, would suggest he's decided to pack it in IMO

I've heard Strauss is standing down as captain. Cook to be the replacement.

2 press conferences also. One with Clarke and the other with Morris.

I don't know why but I'm just not comfortable with Cook as captain.

On the flip side of the coin I can't think of an alternative in the current XI.

Prior maybe? Seems to have the right character and intelligence on the field. Only problem would be combining it with the demands of keeping.

Personally hope it's not Strauss going, I feel he's still got one big Ashes series in him yet. Though his recent poor form can't be ignored.

I like Prior he's got passion, bottle and he speaks very well. I just feel combining all three things at what looks like a crucial tranistional stage for the team would be a bit too much.

I hope Strauss stays on too, but maybe in the back of his mind he can see us getting pasted down in India and he wants to duck out now.

Maybe, though he doesn't strike me as the sort to quit because we've got a tough series coming up that we're likely to lose. He seems more like the sort to grab the series by the balls and say if we can beat this lot we can murder the aussies, so let's use it as preparation for another tough series coming up.

We'll find out tomorrow.

It surely has to go to Cook, if Strauss has gone. Also, who comes in if Strauss has not only resigned but also retired? Root? Carberry?

Personally I'd make Taylor ODI captain if Cook was Test captain too, we seem to like the whole 3 captains idea. Bearing in mind Cook wasn't even in the team when he was appointed, I don't see that being a problem for Taylor. Most of the ODI team have played under him for England Lions anyway.

Slight flaw in the argument is that Taylor isn't in the ODI side!
