Prem Update

I mean, he seems sound enough in fairness, but he's talking to a fanbase who not long ago saw almost 400 consecutive Premier League games, and here he is with his four.
Don’t think he was trying to be patronising, just for him this is all unknown, new and special. For us, playing at the likes of Anfield or Old Trafford just feels like any other league game.

To be fair to the Luton fan mate, I think we would notice a difference in the 5 or 6 years we’ve been away. Not necessarily when you play Man City or Liverpool but when you just cannot get the ball off or hurt a Brentford, Brighton, Palace. The PL is a massive problem for everyone outside the premier league (in this country and in Europe). It’s grotesque as a competition and in every sporting sense, although admittedly it’s quite good to watch.
Exactly. The entire bloody theory around defending has been revolutionized by people trying to copy Pep Guardiola's tactics in the years since we've been out of the Premier League. If you think we struggled with Blackburn's high press the other day just wait til you see what's awaiting in the big leagues.

It's a really good point and unfortunately one not addressed enough. Until there is a fairer and more equitable share of the TV revenues the gap will only get bigger.

Our revenues have gone from £16M to £170M in one season. Absolute madness.

Cut out the parachute payments, give the EFL 25% and you will see a gradual levelling out. Plus it eases the pain of relegation.

Unfortunately, the American hedge funds that are eating into our football will never get that.

I feel for your fans a dedicated supporters, your owners know they've already got millions from promotion, they're going to get millions from relegation.
That's not ambition, as Hull.

Nosed if we ever get back there, I know we will at some point but unless you're a mega club with mega wealth then you're basically there to make up the numbers,
We've had the best season in a long time and looks like it's continuing that upward trajectory but I much prefer being out the prem than in, I know I'll be in a very small minority but hey ho.

I was asked on this board if I'd still post after we lost four/five games. So here goes;

The Prem League is light years above the Championship. Sounds obvious but the quality live is so different from watching on Sky. I'm a passionate Luton fan but also a passionate football fan.

Watching the likes of Mitoma, Bowen, Sterling etc has been strangely enjoyable. The huge difference though is the quality of defending. Prem League defenders are like 200m sprinters, built like brick shithouses with superb tactical nous.

The downside though is the complete lack of atmosphere. I sat in Brighton and Fulham end for our recent away games. It was full of tourists who spent more time on their phones than watching the game. Chelsea was the same apparently.

Still loving it though and looking forward to tomorrow.

Great start for yourselves as well. Seems you have added well to the squad and only lost one loan player. Your squad seems far stronger this season, which you need during the slog of March/April//May. Best of luck.

Finally, one lad on here is a Hertha fan. We went last weekend. What a stadium and what an atmosphere.
It was always going to be a cash cow season for you and hopefully you’ll see good investment with the money when you come down. Just enjoy seeing the big teams.

Don’t take this the wrong way but you were a dirty team last year and you won’t get away at that at prem level so as a neutral, I was predicating and new prem record for lowest points in a season for your team.

Aye the likes of Henri , Hazard , kane were proper shite werent they . Nowt like now

I don’t see that Luton are either playing “the beautiful game” or that the style of football you are playing is anything other than from a bygone era.

Not meaning at all to be unpleasant, but it is not exactly tika taka stuff.

And by the way, I don’t mind it… if you play to your strengths, then more power to your elbow. Hopefully you will pick up some points soon - and hopefully it will be against the bar codes.
Understand where you are coming from. From a neutral perspective our football will still appear ugly to the neutral, particularly in the Prem.

However, we seem to be caught between two stalls. The ugly approach which worked well and the need to be better on the ball.

As an aside, what are your thoughts on Jobe Bellingham?

In fairness, that's a bang on point.

Another thing that gets me is that the play off winners are at a massive disadvantage in terms of trying to assemble a squad to survive compared to the automatic top 2. Burnley effectively had 6 months to get their shit together and start planning whereas by the time you get through the play offs you are weeks of not months behind. Not that it’s even doing Burnley much good and they completely pissed the championship. Historically if you did what Burnley did last season, you’d be ok in your first season up. Less so now.

Fair enough comments mate, and points well made. What I was irate about was the way Crooks disrespected Luton, and I was glad the manager called him out. Luton deserve to be where they are. I really do hope you have a season which sees you pick up some points and have some amazing days. That’s not meant to be patronising at all. Genuinely I do hope that.

I think that as a 17 year old, Bellingham is an incredible talent. He looks to have everything to me. He has played in several positions already and has done well. He is strong, keeps the ball well and has tremendous vision (also has a goal in him). He’s only going to get better. I’ve said on another thread that I think he will go all the way. Not just because of who his brother is, but he has serious talent. We are amazed that the Birmingham fans seemed largely to be unfazed by him going to a divisional rival.

Have a great weekend!

I don't think Burnley used the transfer window well in terms of signing their successful loanees. They got Beyer, which is good and Obafemi, who was a bit part player, but Maatsen is back at Chelsea, Tella is at Leverkusen and Harwood-Bellis needs to be performing miracles at Southampton. Tella and Maatsen are massive misses.

Yeah good insight there. I thought they’d go for Amad but he got injured.

Yeah, I thought they might as well. It's been an odd start to the season for them, A good point at Forest and they couldn't have expected much different at home to City but the other home games have been poor.
Is this the way forward though ? ? ? Get a load of good loans with no chance of keeping them ... Get promoted and not spend too much, get twatted regularly and back down with £100 million to try again in a year ?
