Always will happen. You take a punt on young talent. Some will pay off others won’t. Ferguson bought loads of rubbish in his time at Man Utd but also some great signings. You will never get it right all the time.

Overall, I think we've had bigger hits, than misses. Clark, Cirkin, Hume and Jobe are, of course, the standouts.

Should be noted that we've done well to profit on the likes of Triantis, Lihadji and Ekwah, too. Abdullahi has been doing well for U21s, and Aleksic still needs time IMO. Mayenda and Mundle have paid for themselves.

Poveda is likely the biggest write-off (cost vs. "performances" :eek:). Those other misses we've had are fairly small, too. Seelt, Pembele and Ba were (reportedly) fairly cheap, they're only out on loan atm, but we might cut a small loss on them, like we did Aouchiche, Dajaku, Jewison, Semedo and Rusyn (assuming Hajuk Split want him perm). Roughly £10m in transfer fees for a raft of players isn't too bad, in the grand scheme of footballing finances (though I dread to think of Poveda's signing-on fee and wages)

I think Speakman's tenure has been very good, and his release has been mutual - it was likely agreed at the start of the season, that if certain objectives were completed after the January window, then he'd be handing over to Ghisolfi (probably with a good bonus, too).

Needs to be recognised that he had an excellent January window too, reshuffling a lot of loan players and selling quite a few unneeded ones - it's not always about players coming in, just limiting losses.

A salute to Speakers, who has put us on the front foot, leading into this summer's window 🫡

Granted he signed some right duds, but he didn't have the knowledge level or the contacts in the foreign market to progress us further. I guess that's almost the same thing then.

Also KLD would look at the overall picture and for much of the time we were operating at such a low level in terms of fees and wages there was always going to be judgement calls and gambles that don't come off. Just the nature of transfers, especially at that level.
