Portsmouth Supporters... Scum

Kind of. They have a great new stadium, I’ve been a few times and enjoyed it.

But Brighton has never had the same relationship with football as Portsmouth. Most on our island walk to games, with the stadium reachable from all areas. Or, they can use the train station at Fratton.

We could easily build a stadium, like Brighton did, ten miles from anywhere. But I’m not sure taking the club out of Portsmouth would be the right move. But I take the point!

Brighton's ground is not ten miles from Brighton. And it was built next to an existing train station.

Many wanted to stay at Roker Park. Nostalgia and tradition is attractive.

'Probably more so now given the absolute state of football these days with far too much money in the game.

It's just best left to photos. None of the crowds we've had this season would have fitted in to Roker.

A luxury we won’t have. Only one site exists near a station... and the council have said no. So the choice we now have us an out of town stadium, accessible only by road (not many roads in and out of Portsmouth too, as you know). Or a gradual development of a falling apart Fratton, between 27,000 -32,000. Years of shit choices means the latter is the only viable option. It ain’t ideal.

But yes, Falmer closer to Brighton than I thought. Free train travel with a ticket too.

Maybe, but what have we achieved by moving from Roker?

The main point though is the club moved to another location in Sunderland, that's very different to Portsmouth moving out of town.

We’ve moved into the twenty-first century. Roker was unsustainable, the SOL allowed a new generation of fans to embrace the club. The stadium also re-established the perception that Sunderland was a big club, in the early 90’s our status was diminishing. From a financial point of view the stadium and more fundamentally the academy make the club an attractive proposition going forward. We have to hope sometime in the next 5 years we get rich but sensible owners who can take the club to the next level. A no debt SAFC is a highly attractive investment.

I don't think it is.

To get decent players here we have to pay over the odds to the point where you're saddled with debt.

'No different with Man City and Chelsea for a long while, difference being they had wealthy owners who were prepared to invest a shit load of their own money.

London clubs are an attractive proposition for foreigners with more money than sense because it's London. Sunderland doesn't have anywhere near the same appeal for that kind of person. How on earth Man City managed to get their owner is anyone's guess.

The reality is that unless you're a London club, or Man Utd and Liverpool trading off their name, the rest of us have no chance, unless you get extremely lucky like Man City.

Geography is the only thing we have against us, we’ve got to hope we can get extremely lucky or we will all go to our graves without seeing this club win a major honour. The academy is a massive plus and hasn’t been utilised enough, we should be in a position whereby we have a conveyor belt of talent like Southampton. If we could foster a reputation of producing good young English talent people will pay attention, given the premium set on English footballers.

Good point there mate. That's what it's going to take. Producing good young players who come through together, because the chances are that no one with a lot of money is going to come into Sunderland.

Ellis Short came in, threw money at it, and it never really looked like working. We all know how it ended. Any prospective buyer would look at that experience. It would take someone with money to burn, and those types of people will be more interested in a West Ham than us.

All this stuff about Netflix is sheer jealousy from every single fan that sings about it. Sheer and utter jealousy.

At the SoL this year it’s been a game of bingo as to how quick the away end sing about Netflix or Adam Johnson.

I don’t care what anyone says - this season, nearly every single away following has had a massive chip on their shoulder about playing us. They’ve nearly all sang about Sunderland more than supporting their own team.
Genuine question - and I promise it's not a loaded one, just out of sheer confusion - why on Earth would any set of supporters be jealous about a Netflix documentary?

I posted photos showing both sets of fans on the pitch squaring up, which you claimed didn't happen.
Why is a Palace fan interested in us anyway?

Actually, I'll tell another story exactly along those lines form the same game which I witnessed as was about 5 yards away. Some of your young 'lads' all togged up, approached what looked like a family wearing Sunderland shirts (looked like 3 generation's of males) outside of the away turnstiles after the game. The oldest member of the family who resembled a large Papa Smurf chinned the first one and put him on his arse, the rest fucked off with one actually standing next to a Copper and shopping said Papa Smurf as we walked past.

Whether you believe this or not, I care not as it is 100% gospel.
This is golden.

And I'm not particularly interested in Sunderland. I only came on here for the cricket forum (hence the username). But the fairy tales you lot repeatedly trot out are too good to miss out on:lol::lol:

i was also at the palace play off game and at the final whistle the palace fans ran over to our section and goaded our lot, they also abused or disabled fans, this is fact i saw it i was there, unfortunately for the palace fans they got a good pasting on the pitch once our lads managed to engage them, was amusing as most of the palace fans ran away, the walk back to the station was a bit hairy mind

This is what id like and it's been Dissapointing this season, playing a generally old and slow team. Last game last season v wolves and first game this season we had mumba molyneux Embleton and Robson playing. I'd like to see us give young players a bigger chance. Young players will want to come here and sign as we will play them. I'd rather we had played those mentioned than Catts. He's not the future.

If they hadn't built a Tesco behind the Fratton End we would've had far more scope for expansion. The fact it's there still annoys me to this day, regardless of it's necessity at the time

With all due respect pal, there's nothing wrong with living in Pompey, far worse places in the UK and not many with the same heritage :)
Get rid of the Tesco..I know ..Smoke bomb it !

Even Brighton had a will and a much more difficult predicament and they managed it.
They did, however they benefit from the city limits extending beyond the built up area. As you you, much of the “greater Portsmouth” area is other boroughs and they don’t want a football stadium.

Its 100% true. I was next to it.
Regarding the on the pitch carry-on a press report and press photos have been posted. Do you still refute it happened?

The Palace fans attacking our disabled fans is well documented. Not sure why you refuse to accept that. Unless you’re a wum or just a little dense...

I also had punches thrown at me leaving the stadium. Your fans acted like c*nts that day.

See what happened to some from pompous side. Not always one teams bad attitude

12 of us got moved out of the box we paid £1500 because Sunderland fans where throwing coins and trying to climb up and over to get to us! Disgrace!

Maybe if you weren't stood goading the Sunderland fans immediately after the goal, and for a good couple of minutes afterwards, no one would have reacted you utter clown. Even when it was quite clear that you were inciting the fans in front, you insisted on continuing your gesturing and posturing like a chavvy peacock.

Deserved all you got.
