Years ago I got lifted out of the crowd at Elland Road and took around the outside of the stadium to the command centre when I went up to the toilet at half time, accused of racist behaviour after Brian Deane was involved the opener and goaded the Away fans.

Got around there and they presented me the CCTV evidence of a bloke 2 rows behind me, in totally different clothes, making monkey gestures. They apologised, second half had kicked off and then they took me back to my seat around the perimeter of the pitch. Cue a number of angry Leeds fans and stuff thrown in my direction.

Seems they might have learned to investigate things properly before making rash decisions.

Racism has always been around, however it does feel like today it’s being given a bit more of a legitimate platform when you’ve world leaders building elections on building walls & stopping the boats. I’m not saying immigration & racism go hand in hand, but I doubt you’d find a racist who’s soft on immigrants.

The issue is that sometimes racism is a bit of a red herring.
It’s related to stupidity, ignorance and a lack of respect.

When you have a population of 66 million, even if only 1% are a bit simple, letting their emotions get out of hand
Then there are 660,000 idiots in this country.

Also it seems a bit strange having a list of insults that are acceptable and what what’s not acceptable.
Also football brings out the tribal element, so fans are often looking to upset opposition players trying to put them off their game.
Why not have a campaign about tolerance, empathy and respect?

I blame social media, YouTube and even the mass media and TV as the latest fashion is to exaggerate opinion and be extreme.
Instead of being reasonable, the left highlight the worse of the right making it appear extreme and unreasonable to a rational person
Then the right hand pick the worse of the left making it appear extreme and unreasonable to a rational person.
The examples they highlight are factually correct……backed up by proof.
So people pick a side, like they are in a gang and YouTube gives them all the evidence and videos regards confirmation bias.
So the left genuinely believe they are rational and in the majority and the right are convinced they are being rational and in the underground/ secret majority.

Critical thinking has become old fashioned and kind of boring. Doesn’t receive many views on YouTube if you see both sides and offer context.
People love to watch videos about the evil right or the crazy left….which is causing even more division.

The equation is racist virtually always support right wing politics but that doesn’t mean everyone on the right are racist.
Also the hypocritical woke idealistic types always tend to support the left but that that mean left wing people are hypocrites, many are intelligent and well meaning.

Really hasnt , not in the way ordinary members of one race see another. Even homo sapiens and Neanderthal intermixed Black people in history werent seen as lesser , probably until right up to colonial times . Then the white mans burden kicks in
