"I am deeply sorry for what I did and there is simply no excuse for it. I acted irresponsibly.

"I would also like to apologise to my family, friends, team mates and coaches for the embarrassment I have caused them.

"I accept that I am a role model, especially for youngsters, and for this reason I am particularly sorry about what happened.

"My cricket career is extremely precious to me and I am determined not to waste the amazing opportunity that I have been given."

Liam Plunkett, February 2007

That's him out the door.

Let himself down badly in the last couple of year at Durham and this pretty much tops it off.

Plenty good young bowlers at the club. Wood, Harrison, Coughlin to add to Rushworth, Claydon, Brathwaite, Onions and Thorp.

Didn't know he was driving again. 5 year ago he lost his licence for the same reason I think. He had to hire his Dad as a driver.

Yup he'll be out the door. The club won't tolerate stuff like this. As you've said we've got some good hard working bowlers at the club. We don't need wasters at the club like Harmison and Plunkett.

Plunkett has let himself down so badly.

His drinking and constant pissing up hs been well documented on here..... What a complete tit. Really hope he is sacked promptly.

unless they end up sackig him for gross misconduct i cant see them getting shot.

am sure he signed a massive long term contract at the end of last season when warwickshire wanted him. he was all set to leave then durham jumped in at the last minute with an absolute fortune.

It sounds like he has a problem and he needs help. Sacking him isn't the answer, he has the talent to be an asset to Durham if he can get himself sorted. It's up to him now how his life and career proceeds, good luck to him.
