Players released at Durham

Looks like one or two players who where in the last year of their contract have already been told they are being released by Durham. Sickener for the players not being able to prove their worth by actually playing.
Anybody know more about what decisions have been made?

Is that not normal ?

If they are coming to the end of a contract why wouldn’t they want to know as early as possible ?

Obviously Durham mustn’t rate them

Not really normal due to the fact that nobody has actually played any cricket this season. As I say just asking if anyone knows more details if it's in fact what had occurred.

I suppose the writing was on the wall for Weighell when Coughlin returned.

Sad to see him go as he featured heavily in one of the best Chanpionship games I have seen ie the victory against Leics in 2018 after following on.
Scored 29 and 38 then took 7-32 and not a cloud in the sky....seems a hundred years ago now.

Whitehead hasn't progressed. Weighall a tad unfortunate but nature of the game and business really. Best wishes to both players and I hope they can get fixed up well with whatever they do next

Surprised about Weighell, but worried that the main factor here will have been money rather than ability/talent.

Unfortunately I think a lot of clubs will have to look at having smaller squads as we emerge out of the back end of this pandemic.

Hope the club can rethink this one.

Weighell is 26 years old now and doesn't appear to have progressed the last few years. Presumably the coaching staff believe youngsters such as Coughlin jnr, Potts and Cambell are now ahead of Weighell. After all,it's the coaching staff who see them day on day. It's the spin department that's short if Whitehead has been released. Only Trevaskis?

It’s clear that spin bowlers aren’t much use for Durham. Let’s face it, you can count on one hand the number of quality spinners we’ve had.
