They're still using fax machines in 2025?
Aye some industries do, we do in healthcare for data protection reasons. Governments use them too as they are less susceptible to hacking.

For some reason they are considered more legally binding for contracts.
The transmission and reception protocols of a fax machine can make faxes legally binding for contracts and other important business documents
