PIF & Durham 100 Franchise

Whoever packs in going will be replaced 5 fold by imported Saudi lovers from north of the Tyne.

This is what happens when people cheer on Blaydon races being sung by the players. It’s given them the green light.
I don't think I've ever seen you post on a Durham thread before.

Clearly your a big fan of the team

Aside from the above crap @brandon this is the Durham CEO that's actively tried to make this happen though. How much will it end up creeping into Durham CCC.

No smoke without fire etc.

It’ll become the Fly Saudia Riverside and be plastered in Saudi company sponsors

I’m not adverse to the hundred, quite the opposite really, bairn loves it, love how it’s engaging kids and getting them into cricket, and I actually think a franchise is how the club survives, have to be on of the top 10 as the ECB want rid of a few teams ideally I’m sure, but I didn’t want it to happen like this

My best mate supports them up the road, but the riverside was always our neutral ground, on equal ground, we try not to talk footy when we are there too, gone together from being about 8 years old, our dads took us and we take our kids now too,

But I’m not sure I can entertain this, really wouldn’t surprise me if they are called Newcastle and not Durham either

north east song

I cant even stand singing the modified version at the SoL
Aye it’s tiresome just like when people watching the darts go on about Dobey all the time rather than watching the actual sport.

Football has fuck all to do with cricket or any other sport, but certain people cant let the hatred lie even when watching or commenting on another sport!!

Find it entirely tiresome that everything has to be connected to football all the time.

I would have no issue whatsoever about a North East franchise cricket team.

Although would not want Saudis involved as they a absolute disgrace

Well find this whole criticism of Durham singing a north east song extremely tiresome.
You must have your eyes closed and hands covering your ears if you still believe that’s a north east song.

Ask anyone around the country who that song is associated with and every one of them will say Newcastle. Perceptions matter.

Last time I looked Newcastle was in the north east.

And so is the cricket team singing it.

Either way it’s a song sung by a north east cricket team when they have won a game

A north east cricket team that is based in Chester-le-Street which may have supporters from all round the north east.

No reason at all to bring football into it in the slightest

Completely agree with you, which is why Dobey should not be wearing Saudi shirts and bringing everything back to football all the time.

Spot on. I never understand the obsession with bringing football rivalry into cricket. It's bizarre, it as if the people doing it are incapable of realising that there's an awful lot of people who can find the tribalism of football pathetic and aren't interested in the game anyway.

As for Blaydon Races, it's a north east folk song. The same as Lambton Worm, Water of Tyne etc.

I love football as much as the next bloke played all my life Saturdays and Sundays, but find this obsession with bringing it into other walks of life and other sports total nonsense
