My 8 year old nephew loves the lad. He'd not shown much interest in footy before the world cup but he got right into watching England with his dad. Pickford's performances and him being a Sunderland lad really got the bairn's attention.
Might not be much but having local lads like Pickford and Henderson playing at a top level and getting lots of exposure on TV, even when Sunderland aren't, gives kids role models they can have something in common with. Even if it is just where they're born.
