Pickford to Arsenal

It has always been the case, but it's a bit strange. A great goalkeeper wins points and matches and can be as much of a difference as a goal scorer.

Buffon is the only goalkeeper in history to go for upwards of £30m, but how many other keepers have actually moved clubs when in their prime and at the peak of their value? It's a difficult one to judge because the top goalkeepers tend to stay at their clubs for a long time.

I think £20m should be the starting point for Pickford, maybe upto £30m with add ons. We tend to be too soft negotiating fees, we should try a bit hardball.

That's a fair post. Getting him back for a season would be brilliant too like.

How we handle Pickford's future will send out a massive statement.

With Bain now dealing with transfers we need to show we aren't the Sunderland of old that takes the first bid.

He is contracted until 2020 and their will be a few clubs interested ensuring a bidding war.

Any other club would play hardball whether they were in debt or not. We always roll over too easily

If someone offers £20m it is going to be very difficult to keep him.

Only if we are soft as shite. Just say NO!

Unless I am mistaken and apologies if this has been mentioned in the previous 6 pages, I didnt think we can have anymore domestic players on loan?

We have Januzaj and Denayer, would a sale of Pickford and a loan back to us not breach rules in respect of exceeding loan players?

The terms of the deal could be that he only leaves at the end of the season.

I'd like a proper scramble for his services so a summer sale would be better as we'd have much more chance of getting ridiculous money for him.

I'd rather not sell frankly, if we get relegated fair enough.

£20m  poor deal if true.
When will Sunderland learn you need north of 50 M to get the same talent back that includes some poor buys....so if I am Arsenal he plays to 35 years 20M / 14 years at high level that's 1.42M a year thus a terrible deal....This is the same with the Henderson deal stupid....When you have Short cash in on Assets this is disgusting

If true a great deal for us. For the money this would free up and given Mannone isn't far off Pickford IMO this might be our best chance of avoiding the drop as it's clear we must invest in our outfield players to stand a chance.

Pickford has also only had a few months at the top. It's possible we've seen the best of him and he fades away. Cashing in now makes sense.
Never read such bollocks in my life.

Possibly.

So should we get £20 million for Pickford, does this now mean our Academy is still rubbish? £20 million for Pickford and £16million for Hendo and £3 million for Waghorn. Nearly £40 million on 3 players isnt bad business.

If this club sells him for less than 40 mill, that's me done. In ten years time, he'll be in the top 6-8 keepers in the world.

£20 million for a keeper is a fantastic price, would hope they would loan him back to us for at least another season as Cech is still a quality keeper

Whenever quantifying price, the SMB lunatic fringe wanted 35 million for Kone one month and then to give him away a couple of months later.
