Pick Your Ashes Squad

Is he better than Crawley trying to smash the ball out the ground after 3 overs.....
??
Yes.
Hes also worked heavily on his game, is more comfortable playing through the off side, and is more fluent when going through the gears - he opens (with success) in the Blast for a reason. He just doesn't bat like a braindead simpleton, so the brains trust will constantly turn their noses up at him.

Hes a far, far better and more complete player than he was last time he was in the Test side. Its pure ignorance for anyone to try and argue otherwise.

Yes mate, that's exactly my point, much better batsman than Crawley as he can graft out a score rather than trying to hit out at every opportunity like a DNEL 20/20 player......

Aye, sorry I should have been clear, my last sentence wasn't aimed at you! Just on the dimwits who think hes the same player that did OK, if not excell, for England around four years ago.

Hes a far more complete batter now

Its also (wilfully) ignored that Sibley has added a lot of shots to his game, and is now more than capable of going through the gears - hes not the Brigaddier Block anymore (despite being a solid, immovable object)

If I were fortunate enough to be picking the side for Perth I would go:

Crawley
Duckett
Smith
Root
Brooks
Bethell
Stokes
Foakes
Atkinson
Archer
Wood

17-man squad - if all fit:

Batsman: Crawley, Duckett, Pope, Root, Brook, Bethell

Wicket-keepers: Smith, Cox

All-rounders: Stokes, Rehan

Bowlers: Atkinson, Archer, Wood, Tongue, Carse, Cook, Bashir

Basically need Archer, Wood and Atkinson fit. Crawley and Pope will go, whatever we think. Really like Woakes, but there’s no way he should tour.

Are the Lions over there at the same time? If so, we’ll obviously have an extra pool of players.

my XI for the first Test

Sibley (send Crawley back to Div 2 Kent where he belongs)
Duckett
Bethell (massive risk but I’ve had my fill of Ollie Pope and don’t see who else there is)
Root
Brook
Stokes
Smith
Dawson
Atkinson
Archer
Wood

Fed up of the same old faces being rewarded after constant failure.

Absolutely no chance of this but I would go:

Batsman: Duckett, Lees, Pope, Root, Brook, Coles
WK's: Smith, Foakes
All-rounders: Stokes, Ahmed, Dawson
Bowlers: Atkinson, Archer, Wood, Tongue, Carse, Potts

Starting XI:

Duckett
Lees
Pope
Root
Brook
Stokes
Smith
Ahmed
Atkinson
Archer
Carse

A lot will rest on Stokes' fitness, hence why I have included Coles as the spare batsman as he can get through some overs.

Potts has been poor

There is always one shock with this regime, I’ll go Sonny Baker
Yeah I'd rather us pick him than Overton and I've never really seen him bowl too.

Honestly not really sure it matters who we pick tbh. Their bowling attack is still frightening and they can leave Boland in reserve!

Aussie pitches have favoured bowlers for a few years now and there's are so much better than anything we can pick.

Root aside our batsman struggle in difficult batting conditions, then Root has the nee Aus Ashes century monkey on his back to contend with too.

I think it'll be really tight if I am honest, their bowling attack is ageing and their batting line-up weaker than ours. They can't settle on a top three largely because everyone who has batted there in the last few months has failed miserably.

Goes without saying that we need to start well and win one of the first 2 tests.

Crawley
Duckett
Bethell
Root
Stokes
Cox

Smith (wk)
Pope (wk)

Archer
Atkinson
Carse
Wood

I have always shared that view on Woakes but there is a lot of talk about how some of the pitches over there are a lot different to the past. The MCG for one has had a related pitch which seems to suit seamers with sideways movement.
