Called it. This thread makes me look very clever.
To expand a bit out of boredom, I never for a moment thought this lad was our first choice despite media/board assumptions. SAFC nowadays is data lad and savvy as can be; if a layman like me doesn't fancy a player based on simple obvious things, no way our set-up spends millions because they didn't notice.

I think it's clear from the reputable links and reports at the time that Bulka was our first choice, followed by Petrovic.

It has worked out massively for us getting Roefs in instead and for half the price, but there's no point pretending we haven't had a slice of luck that the aforementioned two went elsewhere first.

Data led Petrovic was one of the best keepers in europe at dealing with crosses, iirc. Roefs was as well.
