Peter Lever RIP

I remember that.
It was ironic that after the barrage England had to endure in Australia that it was an English bowler who inflicted this.
Thankfully thanks to the physio Chatfield was saved.
Lever genuinely thought he'd killed Chatfield. He was in bits on the pitch. In the end, Lever only played two more tests, and Chatfield played on for a number of years. All before helmets, of course.

Part of the legendary Lancs team that got me into cricket in the early 70s - Clive Lloyd, Bumble, Barry Wood, Farokh Engineer, Frank Hayes, Jackie Bond, David Hughes hitting 24 off the over, Peter Lee and of course the great bowler Peter Lever.
RIP.

There was a tribute from Farokh Engineer:
“A very sad day in my life, Peter was so instrumental in Lancashire winning the Gillette Cup. After Brian Statham, he was Lancashire’s main strike bowler. A great teammate."

I had so much time for Lever RIP Old Lad

Statham and Lever were both metronomically accurate. Probably the hardest opening attack to score against, and most likely to induce a nick, because they rarely bowled balls you could leave.
