Penalty on Brobbey


Another classic example of how VAR does not help in terms of objectivity. That’s getting looked at, and given, if it happens to one of their players. Same big club bias, different method.

If one of our players dived that blatantly I’d hope he’d get booked too.

Completely different scenario to Shaw making absolutely no attempt to play the ball and wrestling Brobbey away from it
 
It’s a pen going by the rules that have been applied this season. Shaw isn’t watching the ball and holding - foul and a pen.

Brobbey is also clearly holding so if Shaw was watching the ball and trying to challenge for it, the strange “they’re both at it” “rule” could be applied, but that’s not the case here.

This is also a pen following the logic of the disallowed goal vs Forest. Maguire trips Brobbey. It’s worse than the Mukiele one, because Mukiele won the ball first.

Shaw isn’t looking at the ball and Brobbey is. So they’re not “both at it”, Shaw is committing a holding offence, not battling etc.

The one around the centre circle in 2nd half, where he fought off half of Salford then Maguire nipped in and took the ball off him was fkin ridiculous. Ref was stood watching Brobbey powerslam his way through whilst Martinez was like a little Mexican WWE masked crusader hanging off Bri’s bicep or Bricep as he probably calls them.

Was a foul like.

If he rolled about like a rolly thing he would have at least got that sent to VAR. no different to Mukiele getting one ruled off for happening to have a body after he won the ball v Forest.

The referee had 3 options.

1) Both fouling each other, play on.
2) Brobbey being fouled by a player not even looking at the ball - penalty.
3) Brobbey fouling the player not looking at the ball - free kick.

Got it badly wrong.

Atwell should be refereeing Sunday league games, he's the most inept referee I've seen in my lifetime, how the fuck he gave this as a free kick against Brobbey is astonishing.

The mukiele incident is a great parallel that just shows the baffling inconsistency
