appointing a proven failure in moores, will return england to 8th in the rankings in odis and tests

yours annoyed

angry from blackfell

Harry Gurney played for us a few years ago - didn't take many wickets at all but pleased he has improved. Nice lad.

I must be the only one who's more likely to buy a ticket to see an England game now that Pietersen is gone.

downton has set the standard expected and therefore, has to apply this to all who are in the squad and team. he could start to look at todays debacle. absolutely pathetic performance batting wise. we struggle in sri lanka and they get away with using the conditions as an excuse. look at how that is shown to be complacent with how the two teams performed in those conditions.

i hope journalists question downton over this

It isn't the Pietersen situation specifically, though. Its the horrible thought that only yes men are welcome in this England side. Nice and cosy, and prepared to lose at all times. The regime smells already.

Can't believe how much shit Pietersen got for his bad form in Australia.

If Pietersen was truly effecting team morale and wasn't giving 100% then you have to get rid of him but surely someone like Graeme Swann would have come out and said he did cause trouble in the camp instead of dismissing those claims as he was selling stories after his retirement.

Pietersen will always frustrate as a batsman as we know he is capable of scoring more runs but he still scored 8181 runs in tests and has 23 centuries.

One of the greats for England and is still good enough to play in test cricket.

I had a good day out.

Bored of him, never really looked interested for quite a while.
Well if your bored of him who actually excites you at present? When things are going wrong disinterest seems to be a common thing to aim at individuals. The lads knee was an issue in Australia which would have impacted on his performance and frustration can sometimes lead to lethargy.
To me difficult personalities need to be managed if they are as good as KP and I don't think cook as good a player as he is is cut out for the job to be honest.
If Vaughan was still captain I believe KP would still be in the side.

Good points.

I know he didn't play yesterday, but Cook bores me

Bored of KP? What are your opinions on Cook, Root, Bell etc?

I think people also forget that he was our top run scorer in Australia

I really like cook as a player.Think he's top drawer.Wether he should be in one day side is open to debate mind.
I know who'd I'd rather watch out the two though.
I was more thinking about captaincy. One dimensional, for me. No aggression and no ability to think out of the box. Of course, I could be wrong. Wish we had the guy in your avatar....

This is what annoys me with the ECB. They sacked our most entertaining player. Yes he has a habit of playing a daft shot in the 90s and getting out but he also has three double centuries. A long time since an england player did that.

If Ian Botham had the same adminstrators then that we have now he'd never have played more than a handful of tests.

KP should have had no more than a suspension IMO.

Yes I know what you mean about his captaincy and I agree.Apart from his apparent lack of tactical nous I'm really not sure he's a strong enough character to com an a dressing room either. His comment after first test in Oz I found very alarming when sledging was rearing its head.He basically said we need to tone it down, unnecessary etc while the Aussies were making no apologies at all!
Yes the great Mr Jardine.Win at all costs and basically fuck the opposition. If only we had a man of his ilk now!

All correct!

If Downton is to believed he states he spoke to every senior player and not one of them had a good word to say about KP!that says it all really.

Should have gone after the South African incidents there was no defence for that.

I still believe he is our best player however it is not up to captain to manage difficult personalities it is up to that personality to be a team player and play for the team above anything else.

I think it is refreshing for a management team to drop somebody they do not see as a team player not like football where they would be crawling up his arse begging him to play.

Ian Botham would never had sent texts to the opposition no matter how pissed off he was,he was above all a team player not sure same can be said of KP.

A lot of these senior players prior to downtons interview had came out in defence of pietersen though so somebody somewhere is telling porkies.
KP is far from perfect but neither was Boycott or Botham. Its about how they are managed.Shane Warne was forever slagging off John Buchanan yet it would never have even been considered leaving him out.
The facts of the matter are that despite him being an apparent disruptive influence in OZ he was still our top performer.

Fair point mate especially about Warne/Buchanan,just too many instances with KP me think, seems to fall out with everyone,as I say as far as I can recall cannot remember any players sending texts slagging off their own captain to the opposition no excuse for that,if was not as good a player as he is would probably have been dropped then.

His talent is beyond question I agree with you on that.
