Patto

It was because Patterson's distribution wasn't considered good enough for the Premier League where that has become a very important thing for goalkeepers.
Aye, as I said, he was poor for large parts of the season and his distribution was one of the key factors in this...Let's leave it there.

That save in the playoff final!
In both recent ones. Watched Sunderland til I Die (season 3) again the other day and the one where Bailey Wright misjudges the flight of a ball and lets Vokes in but Pattoxs straight out and blocks the ball with his leg. Could've turned the tide in that game too.

Not good enough to start or for the club's ambition but deserves to be number 1 somewhere and should always be remembered well by fans.

For those of us with memories intact, there were lots of calls to drop him over the Christmas period last season where he was massively off the boil. I'm not going to trawl through results for you. You either can't remember or disagree, but there were valid reasons he was under fire
There were calls for the head of RLB that doesn’t make the crowd right.
If you’re going to make a claim it’s your responsibility to ‘trawl through results’ to back it up.

Fuck off is it? You trawl through results and performances to refute it then 🤷‍♂️ It's an opinion: grow the fuck up

I’m in no way telling you to f-off if that’s what you mean. Just saying if you’re going to make a claim then back it up.
How embarrassingly ridiculous. It's not a court of law, it's a football message board? I missed the rule where every opinion shared on here must be accompanied by irrefutable evidence? You expect me to spend my afternoon bringing forth all the stats available on Patto last season to back this up knowing full well it won't change your mind and you'll just continue arguing or taking issue with it? Besides, the club prioritised getting a new keeper in summer, sent Patto to fat camp, and if this story is to be believed are happy to get him sold - so they can't be far off feeling the same as me that he could have done a lot better last year. Begone with you silly little man.

It is. He had a couple of bad games, quite a few average ones and was phenomenal in some of the most important games of the season. The play off save is up there with Gordon’s worldie and Norman’s Tim Breacker save. Unforgettable.
He deserves to play but it’ll cost a few bob to replace him.
So one save negates the poor run of form over Xmas. Ok. My point stands. The club agree.

He probably isn't good enough as a prem starter but is a good backup.

Excellent championship keeper though. Anyone thinking he was poor for large parts of last season must have been watching different games to me. He had a dip in form at the turn of the year but that was pretty much it

Poor form at Xmas isn't large parts of the season though. Also what has us replacing him for to do with his performance last season?

I mean, a quick Google gives you plenty of articles discussing his form, whether he should/shouldn't be dropped. For those of us with clarity of memory, we remember exactly why.

Look at his goals prevented numbers, he has always been middle of the road in terms of the goals he manages to prevent.

That's before you talk about the other aspects such as his distribution, inability to collect a cross/high ball etc.

There's a reason GK was one of the first positions the club went all out to improve over the summer.

I don't need to read articles mate I watched him play. I have no problem with you saying he needed replacing but he simply wasn't poor for large parts of last season

Again I agree he needed replacing but he wasnt poor for large parts of last season

Aye, so did I. Let's agree to disagree (although again, the club's actions speak volumes louder than you...)

That's an absolutely insane argument though as if the club wanting to upgrade him means that he was poor for large parts of the season then that means that 90% of our team from last year were also.

6.54 on WhoScored. Rotten for a keeper in a top 4 team. As I said, we disagree and that's fine.

Just keep him, he is a perfect back up, isnt great but good enough, not on massive wages and honestly he probably is happy to sit on the bench, never seemed one who actually enjoyed playing.
