He’s a good second tier stopper. I thought he had potential to go higher earlier in his career but he hasn’t particularly improved since the promotion season. The distribution hasn’t got any better sadly and that’s a big thing if he’s ever going to be a level above and good there.

Like nearly all keepers, he’ll have dodgy games. Today one of them.

Good enough for what though?
Look at other keepers in this league and you'll see he is one of the better ones.

He has aspects of his game that he needs to improve on but a poor keeper does not make the save he did that led to Ballard's OG
 
He absolutely has some qualities but unfortunately they aren’t the ones that create the platform for a team to win 30 games in a season

He can make outstanding reaction saves on occasion which by nature generates attention

But they maybe gain you 6 points a season at most despite being very noticeable

The qualities which don’t go as noticed to the wider world but which teammates and mangers rate more highly and which tacitly create the platform to win 30 games a season are what he doesn’t have. Without being as obviously attributable they contribute to you winning 5 x as many points.

ie. Assuredness, calmness dominance, being in control, being a steely focussed character, focus - it’s all mental traits rather than technical ones. Someone you can trust to just do all of the basics right 10/10. It wins you games and acts as a multiplier as it also reverberates across the team

He reminds me of a championship version of Ramsdale, and it’s the reason Ramsdale won’t make at the top of his league either.

Just not the right persona to be a winner

had a bairn anarl a few month agan anarl iirc mate,settling into a bit routine there with the missus and the little un. sofa and snacks and bath time ffs. needs to toughen hisel up imo

People have opinions and he’s suspect on certain things like at least one of the goals today and a few last season so fuck 🤷🏻‍♂️

Had a very easy ride so far this season. The smogs will try and bully him next week and he needs to be switched on.

Long term though I don’t see him improving.
