Patto

Patterson was man of the match for many on Tuesday night, now many want him dropped.

Fickle comes to mind.

It is strange though, it seems irrational, something personal eg Patterson has he shagged their mother/sister/girlfriend.. ??

I’m not saying he isn’t a decent keeper but a Quick Look on Top Goalkeeper website shows a list of the attributes a top keeper should possess. See how many you can put a tick next to in regards to Pattison.

He simply isn't good enough...his distribution is woeful and he does not command his box. We need a new number 1 keeper brought in this window
Speakman is as good at signing Goalies as he is CFs. His distribution is woeful. His feet are just so slow and with his added bulk he just looks even slower. I ve heard he’s been hammering the weights. Either way he looks heavy and it’s making his worst attribute look even worse. I do think he’s a decent enough keeper though but if an offer in the range of 6-7 million for him I d be very tempted to shift him on.

The biggest issue yesterday was O'Nien's header our and the scorer being free at the back post.

If we all watched other keepers like we do with Patterson, we'd realise that Championship keepers are flawed and make mistakes.
One thing is for sure and I've posted this season and last, we will not gain promotion with Patterson in the starting line up...

He is weak in coming off his line, punching and claiming balls, distribution, commanding his box, but a good shot stopper and the best overall we have. He'll be fine for now and we should look to bring Matty Young through.

I’d be tempted to cash in during the summer. Young would be a gamble, but the quality of clubs tracking him would suggest he is the real deal. We can always cover ourselves by having a half-decent veteran reserve. Not sure that’s Moore, but we can hedge. Sell Patterson at the top of his value and begin Young’s journey.

Obviously if we go up, then I think it’s too soon for Young, but we could have him bench a year and sign a stop gap veteran, peddling Patterson while we can. Patterson’s major flaw in distribution will kill is in the league above.

That's a bold post.

Having seen him more often this season it's clear that his development has stalled. Good shot stopper but he can't kick with either foot and doesn't command his box in an era where goalies get a free kick for the slightest contact.

Too many heart in mouth moments generally. This is what happens when you've had no competition for two or three years.

He's a good shot stopper but he has so many weaknesses to his game.

His kicking is ridiculously bad, he struggles to even keep it in play when he hits anything over 60 yards. He doesn't command his box and he's weak on crosses.

Kinell, sounds like we have a Wearside League keeper as our No1.......

Just championship? Premiership goalies seem to make more errors than any other player on the pitch

The first issue was that the cross came in at all. It should never have come in - there was ample opportunity to close it down.

Now that the dust has settled are people still taking their frustrations out on Patto for both goals?

First one - Salis falls over, then falls over as he’s attempting to get back up. Cross comes in, Mepham shins it on the 6 yard box, Patto races out to try and deal with the f***ing car crash defending - it’s unfortunately squeezed under him.

Second one. Absolute bat shit crazy no need at all foul in the 90th minute from Hume who seems to be picking up our man of the match award. He doesn’t make that foul - we win the game.

Cross comes in and it’s a pretty weak header from 09 who’s always going to head that. Did Patto shout? Who knows? 09 is never leaving that though. It goes to the edge of the box and we lose a header, then another header and it falls nicely for their lad.

Patto is not the most guilty by a massive distance in either of those goals.

Thing is it was bleeding obvious at the time he was not at fault.
Strikers are deliberately targeting between goalies legs …. Happens all the time in the prem.
