Because it's your missus close family.

It's called being the bigger person. Showing that you care about her son even if the son isn't interested. The lad clearly has issues he hasnt got over.

Shrugging your shoulders and going meh isnt good enough. Respect is a two way street.

There’s no logic here at all. You want him to make an effort with someone who wants nothing to do with him? That’s going to cause more problems.

The lad is a grown up and he’s made a choice, it’s not Keith’s responsibility to help him through whatever’s wrong, that’s up to his lass.

Is that what's happened? , cos it's not the way I've read it.

From what Keith is saying, he's tried to be civil with the son, but the son is being an arse. Keith is saying that he's not that bothered that the son doesn't want to know as its not his problem. Which it isn't.

I've got a mate, who started a relationship with a widow. She had 2 kids in late teens/early 20's and they all got on fine with him (and actually quite pally). They were engaged before your 1 year seriousnes window anarl.

Obviously we're only hearing one side of the story, but the son is in the wrong going by what's been said

My logic?

Using you argument the lad doesn't have to give a fuck about Keith. He's a grown man and Keith isn't his dad. If it's not Keith's responsibility to be part of the family and help the family with their problems then he isn't part of the family is he.

Some meltdown this.

So in summary, @Banks, you think Keith should contact the lad, whom he’s met once and who has made clear wants nowt to do with him, in order to offer his support to help him get over something personal.

I think that’s absolutely mental, but there we go.

Nah didn't say that at all.

You've already called me a wanker. Now I'm having a meltdown. Why don't we just agree to disagree eh.

My Christmas will be better than Keith's that's for sure 😂

There may be a tiny element of truth in some of what you've been saying but you've gone in on the other fella Keith with the smb equivalent of an 'over the ball, two footed stamp tackle' on this thread. Not sure such a brutal character assassination was required.

A kid having a Macky-on-dar is a big thing mind and the resentment from the kid to the Macky-on dar is understandable. The bloke needs to sit back keep quite and not force the issue and be nice to everyone.

You will never be their dad. No one can replace him. You can come close though.

@Banks 8 months is a canny long time to be in a relationship to be fair. either way the relationship becomes serious when all the components slot together Like doing the Xmas thing, like doing the meeting of the kids and socialising with the family on both sides. This bloke (28) is acting like kid trying to rule both his mothers and mothers fellas life. Imagine losing a husband and then when you feel it’s right to move on your grown up kid makes it awkward.
Imagine losing a dad and then treating your mother this way, telling her how to celebrate Mother’s Day.
Nowt worse than having a relation who doesn’t go to celebrations/party’s because they don’t like/talk to someone else in the family. The miserable c***s.
