Of course, it is reckoned that Malan plays best on a fast wicket. So he would be well suited to Australia, but can he really be selected right now?

Define record. Winning more - making big runs when we’re already ahead in games or when we’ve already basically won - isn’t beneficial to anyone particularly. It’s not just about averages but strike rates at specific times, specific moments in games and other factors too. And if you watch games, it’s rare that he’s the one that makes the winning or main contribution.

How can he not make the main contribution when he generally scores the most runs and bats near top of the order
