Pakistan v England 3rd Test

They won the 1st test despite being 500 and odd behind after the Pakistan 1st innings. Both Root and Brook were having cramps for most of their innings against brutal heat.
Hammering it home when you have the conditions is one things, adapting your approach when it's against you is another thing entirely.

And England's batting approach point blankly refuses to adapt to the conditions. So when going hard isn't the answer we have to be prepared to take an absolute beating, because they've told us that that is how they are going to play.

Nothing about that attitude says 'fight' to me.

Mic drop.

The only ground in this country that regularly has spinning pitches is Somerset and they get fined by the ECB for creating them, so there’s no surprise that we don’t produce batters that can play it.

In the grand scheme of things, is it terrible that we can’t win in these conditions? As an England test cricketer, there’s only 1 thing that matters really and that’s beating the Aussies once every 2 years.
Exactly. There’s even spinners gone on loan to find pitches that suit them. There’s no chance for batsmen or bowlers to improve if the pitches aren’t there.

Nearly as bad as the ECB devaluing a 50 over cup. If there’s a World Cup in that format then surely we should be playing it more.

To me it’s clear that the whole plan is to win the ashes in 14 months time. Everything we’re doing now is gearing up for that series. They’d rather lose now to win there if that makes sense.

This current group is the one that’ll go to Australia and they’re going to hunker down and stick together.

It’s easy for us to want changes and those calls, especially the Pope one, are justified.

They’ll probably come out and say they just need to go harder next time, which is usually their stock reply to being questioned on their batting. It’s getting boring now.

As Stokes, has said many times, the crowded England schedule needs to be addressed.England would be aware of their weakness, against spin and should have been in Pakistan 4_weeks before the test series to familiarise and practise.

I agree with you, and there's nothing about that attitude that suggests fighting for anything.

So we just have to get used to hammerings like this until that changes.
