Pakistan v England 3rd Test

3 wickets was decent Bashir line far to straight as he has been for a while. Yet saw him with Petal in the last test warm
ups bowling a far more attacking and better line.

Definitely England's day thanks mainly to Smith's innings.

I can't see them getting parity to the 1st innings let alone chase last on here. Plus, nice to see Bashir improving, even if it's small increments.

I don't think there's many demons in the pitch either. A few that kept low but if you played through the V you were okay. Shame our top order didn't catch on sooner.

Pope and Brook will be disappointed missing straight ones too.

If pitch deteriorates at the normal rate, game will be over by lunchtime Saturday. May not even get that far if the bowlers really turn it on.

Think you're doing a bit of discredit to the way the hosts bowled. Plenty of variation in the pace. And the pitch was definitely helping in the morning too.

On the flip side, it was also Pakistans (understandable) tactic of tossing them up that allowed us to get more runs on the board later on. Risk v reward at play there and we got the better of them in that stint.

Finely poised for me with both teams happy. Tomorrow morning is a biggie I think.

Can't see that happening.

Shame Smith won't be available in NZ.

Mark Butcher is critical of his decision not to go.

Butcher can fuck off in all honesty. Nothing should get in the way of being there for the birth of your child, especially the first one.
Yeah he seems out of date when it comes to modern ways. Not as if Smith is the first to do this.

Just watched the highlights as I gave in to sleep at tea, hoping that that was a match winning innings by Jamie.
I think we are stronger with the bat, but they have much better spinners.

Some amazing stats first thing today, apart from getting nearly 4 degrees of spin from the first ball (with random bounce), the ball that got Duckett out was rated as the 4th hardest ever in tests in Pakistan!

Yeah, they bowled well with the hard ball but they let themselves down as the ball got softer. Like you said they lost the 'toss it up' game, and let us post a competitive score.

On a side note. I think the hosts will be disappointed in their boundary fielding/catching today. At least 2 occasions when the boundary fielders juggled catches unsuccessfully. Another couple of occasions when they weren't even aware of the boundary line.

Maybe I'm being harsh, but this T20 world, I guess we take for granted the leaps in standards fielding has taken.

It's obvious that these Pakistani players haven't been exposed to high level T20 leagues, whilst they were sharp in the infield. Their outfielding less so.

I think the lack of top level red ball cricket that much of this Pakistan team have played is the biggest contributor.

Shame, but on the wider topic of the series, regardless of what happens from here it has been an absolutely brilliant series.

It’s been a fascinating series on a whole bunch of levels.

I love the fact that the conditions are different globally, it should be hard to win away

Some of the performances from an inexperienced attack have been hugely encouraging too
