Giles does not inspire me with confidence. I didn't rate him as a player, don't find him particularly inspiring in interviews and haven't been hugely impressed by his job with the one day sides.

However, we need to think very carefully at the makeup of our team, aside from the coach. IMO, Carberry is not worth perservering with, he is quite well past the wrong side of 30 and does not have the technique for test match cricket. I'd get Root back up the order and stick with him.

The middle order is then anyone guess. Will KP hang around? I don't particularly like him but he is our best batsman so I suppose I hope he does. Bell stays in the team for me but needs to find form again. That leaves space for another batsman at 5 and I am open to suggestions here. Stokes should stay in at 6. I don't rate Bairstow as a batsman so would get him out and Prior (or a younger WK) in at 7.

Bowling wise, I'd get Finn in alongside Broad and Jimmy. We then have space for a spinner. From what I have seen of the options, Monty's probably the best of a pretty ordinary bunch.

He was a short term horses for courses pick we used to see England do a lot of. Root should have been shown faith as our opener for the next 10 years, rather than drafting Carberry in as a sticking plaster stop gap.

I thought Giles did well with limited ability and done a steady job when he playerd, dont think he is a Coach though :lol:

Although Pietersen is England match-winner he will not go down as an all-time great in my eyes as he is not as destructive as and can be reckless a little too often for me. Bell does not surprise me as he goes through patches of looking hopeless one minute and sublime the next he will always be like that imo. Stokes has a lot of talent and Prior looks way past his best.

The bowling is less of a problem (apart from the spinner) its not a big deal that Swann has retired as he does not look the bowler he was 5 years ago.

Whilst still embarrassing, you could sort of understand losing 5-0 to that side, getting whitewashed off this current bunch will be one of the most pathetic episodes in recent English cricketing history.
 
Some of the batting in that innings was a disgrace.

Bell!? Not the first time he has been out early to a terrible shot, almost unforgivable in a man with so much talent.

Bresnan should have found the ball that dismissed him easier to hit for four.

Root loses his mind taking on Johnson for a needless run.

Carberry is unfortunately a wicket waiting to fall. A pity as he can handle Johnson but then goes into his shell.

The rest weren't that much better, Cook being the honourable exception, along with KP who eventually must have got sick of the sight of surrender around about him and went to hit Lyon out of the country.

There is too little fight in this England team, as shown by the non existent performance of the tail throughout the series. Austrsalia's top order has struggled badly in every first ininngs, even in Adelaide they wobbled a bit, but their tail, marshalled by Haddin has shown how to grind out runs, or belt them out. They did it again again last night. The last wicket partnership between Haddin and Lyon put on ten times more runs than our last five wickets managed.

They were not undone by pace either, just a good off spinner, bowling decent stuff. An abject surrender. This team will get some serious stick when they return and they will deserve it. I expected Aussie to win this winter, 2-1 or maybe 3-1, given them being at home and seeing Johnson bowling as he did in India. But the 5-0 that is coming is on the point of being disgusting.
 
Got up for a piss at five thirty and we seemed to be recovering on 168/5. A few minutes later all out, f***ing disgraceful.

These players have not become bad cricketers overnight, they look psychologically shot to bits. The buck has to stop with the coaching staff.

Clutching at straws a bit, but no one has made over 180 batting fourth on a drop in pitch at the MCG. So ya never know broad might do a dean headley!

A decision needs to be made about Prior. Keep him (I say yes) or get Bairstow in as permenant replacement now? Maybe an "attacking" keeper/batsman in the mould of Gilchrist. Keiswetter?

The spin department needs sorting. Monty isn't a "bowl them out" spinner so isn't the answer. Years ago it would have been Samit Patel or Adil Rashid but neither have kicked on. Tredwell would be a stopgap, albeit the best there is at the moment. Dare they take a risk on Borthwick?

Anderson is a delicate point, clearly coming towards the end of his career even with a few years left but at a greater risk if burning out now. Phase him out in a rotational basis with Finn?

Alternatively, we could not do hay forward planning and be shocked when we are shitter than now when several key players retire at the same point.

Its f***ing shameful marra. Cringeworthy stuff.

I left the game this morning at lunchtime and we were gong canny with a 105 lead. Gets up a few hours later and the Aussies are batting. Shameful.

Flower wants to go anyway doesnt he? I agree like a lot of the blame rests with the coaching staff and its a collective failure by everyone. Pity the Barmy Army and all of those fans who have spent a vast fortune to watch the surrender monkeys.

Ignoring the fact that you've arbitrarily chosen the point after Prior's last century and not at the start or end of any series, and the fact that byes aren't always the 'keepers fault, that is still a barefaced lie.

As is 'his keeping has always been rank, and in the past year both have been sunday league standard.'
 
Sunderland better improve my mood today like I've only been up 30 minutes and england have decided to try and ruin the day before it's begun

Oh I have seen worse. Remember when we had 4 captains in one series at home? That was the good old days - Peter May was Chairman of Selectors and brought in his nephew, Chris Cowdrey, as captain - Chris Cowdrey! That is how some of the old guard would still like it run - all public school and the odd grammar school lad doing twelfth man duties. Get rid of Flower and his bloody diets and get people in who can stir the players up to want it so much it hurts. Get the fight going again and don't worry if they are eating egg and chips and not enough greens. We need a modern day Peter Willey!
