Ow dear racist remarks on

Yeah that’s exatly what I’m saying it’s an area where your nana used to call it the p@ki shop without actually knowing that was offensive, and obviously things like that get passed onto grand kids etc etc it’s getting better but still will take time for it to die out.
I have lived in a town with an approx 10% Asian population all of my life and we’d use the term p@ki shop, gyppos, ch!nkies etc.

Not many people do now but even in more diverse places there are issues.

It was rare to use ‘n!gger’ though, at least directly to a black person. Even in the late 70s.

Have they had any complaints? All my black mates laugh their arses off when white people get all offended over shit like this. One of them particularly enjoys seeing how he can wind people up. He knows how petrified anyone is seen to be racist that he actively plays on it!
It’s shit crack winding people up but my wife is the same she finds it funny how people still say stupid stuff she would never kick off or take offence

Correct ,

When I was young if you called someone “black “ the teachers would chuck you out the school. It was coloured people back then.

Same goes for mixed race ,it was half cast then .

It’s all a load of f***ing bollocks tbh .

Why the need to call them anything though? Why not just their name? Do we go around saying "oh there's white Mick or pale peter?"

The problem is that the terminology can change.

We would describe a kid as half caste in the 70s. Then it was recommended to use mixed race, now it’s dual heritage.

Explain that to an 80 year old from a pit village who first saw a non white person when they had a football trial at West Brom in 1955.
It always amazes me how angry some people can get over those terminology changes

I work d for a big us firm for 6 years and their Head if Diversity used the term ‘people of colour’ which just sounded f***ing appalling.
It sounds to me like medieval English . You don't say "pass me that pen of blue". It's now in common use in American universities and has started to be used here.

Went out with this lass from Nigeria (no chance) and she would use the term coloured. She went on about race much more than I ever even thought about it mind.

It’s really not that hard.
Here’s an analogy for you. You’re in the pub with your mates and someone tells a story about how he did something stupid. You say ‘what we’re you thinking man you daft c**t?’ No harm no foul right?

Now you go home and your Mam tells you she locked herself out the car. Do you say ‘what we’re you thinking man you daft c**t?’? I would expect not but I don’t know the dynamic between you and your Mam (assuming she’s still aliven and you have a reasonably convivial relationship - work with me here!)

Say you’re single and you’re in a bar trying to pull a stunning bewer who is clearly from the right side of the tracks. Do you slip a ‘c**t’ into the conversation to see how she’ll react, or do you play it safe and mind your Ps and Qs, as you don’t want to do anything to disrupt the possibility of you pulling a snog by the end of the night?

You’re at work and your supervisor is showing round a group of executives. Do you act polite to give the impression that you and your crew are all professional and efficient and doing a great job or do you ask your supervisor ‘wheez this bunch of c**ts you’re bringing round graft?’?

You’re interviewing for a new job with a female boss. She asks you why you left your last job. Do you say ‘cos my last boss was a conniving c**t’?

Context is everything. Anyone who doesn’t know basic decorum such as how to behave in the above scenarios is taking up too much space on this planet. Anyone who complains ‘it’s too hard trying to keep up with what we’re supposed to call non white people’ is too thick to deserve any more oxygen. It’s not that hard.

Get a grip man. Is your life really so incomplete coz you’re not allowed to say ‘nigger’ in front of Black lads even though you’re aware some of them say it to each other?

:D

I forget the context but some caller said ‘fuck’ on CNN the other week and the hosts were absolutely crapping themselves falling over themselves to apologise to the audience.
It’s not your fault man, calm down - nobody’s blaming you and your FCC licence won’t be revoked.

Take a bow lad. Top post.

Now this is slightly non-intuitive.

Calling people ‘coloured’ as in ‘that coloured lass’ used to be the (seemingly) polite way to refer to usually Blacks but also assorted other non-Whites. It fell out of favour a long time ago, I would guess partly as a result of the aforementioned James Brown song and rallying cry, as Black people ‘took ownership’ of ‘Black’ and rejected ‘coloured’, and partly due to the use of ‘coloured’ in Apartheid era South Africa to refer to anyone who was neither Black nor White but still regarded as at best a second class citizen and at worse subhuman (but slightly ahead of Black!)

Anyway similar to AIM - the American Indian Movement (they now prefer their own term ‘Native American’ rather than the term supplied by lost Europeans) the NAACP is stuck with an outdated moniker within their title. Somehow ‘people of colour’ is still seemingly an acceptable term to describe anyone of a non-Anglo-European ancestry, but calling an individual or a group ‘coloured’ is frowned upon.

Mind, I still don’t buy the argument that older generations can’t cope with this. They’ve lived through the turmoil of industrial strife and power cuts in the seventies, currency decimalisation, entering the common market (and soon leaving!), TV expanding from three channels to three hundred, mobile phones, computerisation and modernisation of almost everything, changing from gallons of petrol to litres, endless adjustments in the traffic system around the town, and the demise of Binns, Joblings and the Black and White Minstrels show on a Saturday night. If they can’t cope with adjusting their vocabulary slightly for the benefit and comfort of the inevitable (but still gradual) addition of non-White people to northeast society then they’re taking up too much space on the planet and it’s time for them to shuffle off.

Racism is abhorrent and also ridiculous given skin is anatomically the same across skin colours but with different levels of melanin.
Thankfully racism is dying out of society
