I'm going to the Test on Saturday.

Do any of you know if I will be allowed a (very small) rucksack in the ground. I'd rather not faff on with a bag drop/pickup somewhere, as we could be tight for time for our train back after the match. I'm happy to stick it under my seat at the match.

There's nowt on line that I can find.

Never had an issue at a cricket ground, you’ll be fine
 
No problem with this, other than you'll have to wait a fair bit longer at the gates as you'll go into the bag search queue, which is much slower. Oval usually fairly quick though, so no biggie.

I'll be doing same at Old Trafford.

They'll take all drink, including water, as another OP said. Other that, unless you've got a weapon or something, you'll be fine.
 
Yup. I always take a rucksack to the Oval with some snacks and a brolly. You see some people going in with picnic hampers. It will be searched but as long as you don't have any alcohol or anything else prohibited then you won't have a problem

Be aware that the Oval is cash free so card payments only within the ground.
