"Our squad isn't strong enough!"

There’s also an emerging trend in which it seems some posters cannot accept any form of criticism of the side or a player.

This is a forum for the exchange of views.

Of course we all want SAFC to prosper and achieve the objective of staying up this season.

Last night was a chance for some of the players on the periphery of the first 11 to stake a claim for a starting spot. With the exception of a couple they didn’t take that chance.

For the side we put out last night to lose to what was effectively Huddersfield reserves was very poor and posters are well within their rights to point that out.
Yep poor showing from some players trying to make there way into the starting 11. Might find there way to the transfer market. Busy week close to a must win on Saturday. Need two more players and some players need to move out or loans. Will be interesting weekend

Criticism is entirely fine. Posters screaming that RLB should be sacked due to last night is just ridiculously over the top and we have seen that time and again. We had posters in here wanting him sacked before the play of final. It gets old…

Spot on.

Have spoke to a few fans of other clubs lately who felt it was harsh to just buy a new first team pretty much and bench half of the team we had last year but last night justified it really.

All the people I've talked to said that's the way to stay up in the premiet league

It's only going to take a couple of defeats before they want him gone again

Should have prioritised buying a striker, simple as that. Most of the good ones have now gone to other clubs, including to our competitors. Hopefully they have one up their sleeve, but I think they are risking going with Mayenda and Guiu, with Isidor occasionally playing there. But what do I know, I've only been successfully coaching for over 5 years...

Alreet there Pep?

It’s fair to say that it’s dawned on a lot of people the gulf in quality between the prem and championship. You need a very strong bench as well as the first 11. We’re nowhere near it.
The Burnley result was a massive kick in the bllx.
Yesterday just showed that the majority won’t step up. That was a great opportunity.

If the first XI isn’t good enough I dread to think how much the bench isn’t good enough.

Well you saw the bench yesterday against Huddersfield.

Personally I think with Ballard being injured we need a CB. I feel like wingers the jury is still out and the forward.
We can’t afford Mayenda to miss chances like that. We don’t create enough.
The bench .. other than le fee, psg lad and ex West Ham .. not sure on the rest. Wilson.. who I love.. needs to do more but we’ll see again at the weekend

The second XI were disappointing. That doesn’t mean none of those players are good enough. A world of difference dropping Rigg or whoever into a team with Xhaka, Alderete et al, than a team with Harrison Jones playing out of position at left back and Roberts left wing.

there were some shit performances mind and I am not whitewashing that!

I didn’t actually. I was working till 9 pm. I could have gotten a ticket, driven to Sunderland from Shields’ and got in to see the last few minutes including the shootout. But I saw the kind of players we had in the first team and I was very doubtful. Even the ones who we bought in I was not convinced by looking at the shoreline on the BBC Sport website.

I think many thought the first 5 games would tell us much about how we’re likely to go this season. Both because of the easy start on paper we got through the fixture list and also that the window will be shut and we’ll know what we have at least for the next few months.

If we can get a couple of positive results in the next 3, I think we would all take that and think we have a fighting chance. If we don’t do that, and say are 4 points from 5 games, it probably means we’ll be up against it and unlikely to stop up. This league is brutal.
