Our Set Piece Coach

They are pretty predicable. Throw it or cross it to Ballard. Maybe to mix it up a little just use him as the distraction

Or even go short once in a while, rather than allowing the opposition to get back and setup.
Some bloke who came from Charlton is the set piece coach.

He worked at Birmingham with Speakman, English and Dodds. Best person for the job or jobs for the boys?

The recent quality of our offensive and defensive set pieces certainly suggests its the latter.
Our attacking set pieces seemed far better in the early stages of the league, I'm sure there was talk of little signals that were being given but now it just seems a bit rinse and repeat.

By all accounts, he was very highly rated at Charlton and was seen as a coup when we hired him...
Have you seen anything that suggests why a set piece coach who basically came from
L1 was highly rated?

Not evolved as season gone on. Been out performed by opposition and not succeeded for a good while now either offensively/defensively.

The mags had a really good corner routine against Man Utd which very nearly resulted in a goal. Gordon was stood at near post, all other mag players (and therefore defenders) would stood towards the back post. Everyone made a run towards the near post as Gordon spun around the back to attack the back post.

Near post runners meant Gordon's marker was blocked and couldn't track him. He was left with an unchallenged volley about 8 yards out at the back post but he just couldn't reach it.

Made me wonder when was the last time we seen us try something different from a set piece.

My suggestion would be begins in the warming up process with players shooting practice from the 18 yard line. This needs to be stopped as during the game, on two occasions yesterday and in previous matches, we've had the clear cut opportunity to strike the ball from this range during the games and ended up "buck passing" to another player when a strike on goal may have earned us a reward or two. The Warm up practice is imo view a waste of time..

Only kidding, but it is there to see, clear as day.

Watching PSG and Bayern and it was a joy to see proper football without the pushing, shoving and handbags you see in premier league where set pieces are so important

I picked up on this months back but for a big side

Its WILD how many headers we lose in our box.

Not necessarily againt big opponents either. Little wingers and that unmarked in the box
