Our Set Piece Coach

Some bloke who came from Charlton is the set piece coach.

He worked at Birmingham with Speakman, English and Dodds. Best person for the job or jobs for the boys?

The recent quality of our offensive and defensive set pieces certainly suggests its the latter.

Get them to start whipping the ball in instead of floating it to the back post . Our crosses from open play are shocking aswell .

It feels like we’ve got worse at set pieces as the season has gone on. Early on we looked inventive, corners were a real threat, and long throws helped us build pressure and create chances. Now that edge has disappeared. I saw a stat today saying we’ve scored the fewest goals from corners, and in this game we could barely beat the first man.

As for in our own box...because we’re a defensive team, we tend to concede a lot of set pieces, but earlier in the season we handled them well. We looked organised and solid. Lately, though, we’ve started conceding from them and we just look vulnerable.
Feels to me that this has been the case for the last 20 years. Never understood how regimes change yet this issue remains. Really odd.

By all accounts, he was very highly rated at Charlton and was seen as a coup when we hired him...
