Open Letter To Ellis Short/Petition

Think we should have done this as soon as he didn't leave in the transfer window.
Its costing us over £1.5m to keep paying him until the summer when as you say the situation will have to be resolved

Probably easier to defend our position when our income makes it unsustainable to retain such liability and taking into account the fact that the lad has done nought to prevent the club/business from being placed in a more precarious position.

All that needs to be discussed at potential takeovers surely? Which goes back to is he making it a viable option? People keep saying hes put price down to 50m, so what more can he do? There's also the 68m owed, so it's closer to 120m potential buyers need. Personally, Short shouldn't be getting anything back imo and needs to take responsibility for the state the clubs in, he won't obviously which is a main part of the reason no one will buy I would guess.

No one thinks signing this petition will make him sell the club for next to nowt, but what it could do is show the fans are on the same page and wave length. Through all this we want the same thing ultimately and still care about whats happening to our club, with some sort of united front. Instead we get bickering, people saying it's pointless and genwrally can't be f***ing bothered to take 2 minutes to sign an on line petition ffs. You're not signing ya life away, it's not costing money or having to go out of your way to do it, it's an on line petition. Get some perspective here lads and lasses.

Well put mate.
One of the things we deserve as fans is more transparency. The fact no one knows 100% if the club is for sale at £50m? If the debt is included? Etc... is one of the things it asks for.
Everyone I spoke to at the match last night seemed pleased something had at least came out relaying how they/we feel.
Alas, you’re always gonna have folk who’d twist on 21. It’s the British way.

Exactly
It might be a waste of time but looking at the numbers who have signed its certainly united a lot of fans and given them an outlet for their frustration

You
I'm not convinced, I just think it is a possibility, if as reported, he is putting money in to cover losses, there may come a time when he realises he's not going to be able to sell the club for anything near the amount that will recover what he's put in, and it's costing him more money the longer he keeps hold of the club, so he could just decide to say "fuck it" and pull the plug.
re probably thinking as a pissed off supporter rather than a level-headed and otherwise successful business man. Until we know the following it’s anyone’s guess where we are:

Is the club up for sale?
Is Short ACTIVELY looking to sell with potential buyers being courted?
What amount has he personally invested in SAFC?
How much would he be willing to reduce the asking price to? (His personal “hit” so to speak.

Finally we have no idea how much he is spending on the oft mentioned “day-to-day-running” to keep the float.

That’s just for starters.

WTF is the point of this open letter? He's admitted he wants out, he has allegedly lowered the price and is awaiting a suitable bid. Until that bid comes in (unlikely from any sane people) we are in deadlock
Just don’t sign it marra. Some will and some won’t. I’m not signing it for example as I feel these online petition things are shite. I’ll continue to support the lads until the bitter end (be it me or the club)! Some impressive numbers though all the same.

I'm glad of the amount of signatures on the petition and i've signed it myself but what outcome are people expecting to get from it? It won't quicken up any sale of the Club, Short won't invest in transfers, so i'm baffled to what fans are expecting to achieve.

I’ll bet anyone on here any amount of money that the new owners will not see us last as long a period of time in the premiership as Ellis did.

I love the fact people are prepared to mobilise themselves, and with specific reference to the fans group, take time out from work/family and try to do something here.

People do need at the same time, to have a sense of perspective.

It’s not the fans club. That’s perhaps the first, and most difficult thing for people to accept. It’s a private limited company owned by a private individual(s).

They have to answer nothing to us as fans. I don’t like that, but it is the case. Whilst I share their passion, some of the things that people on here are demanding answers to are ridiculously naive.

Its just about applying pressure and letting the world know how we feel. Of course we cant force a sale two parties need to come together to achieve that. But we need to show some passion and get some awareness outside of tbis tight geographical area of the plight of the club. Show people that there is still life in the fanbase. You never know that might catch some attention.

I’ve signed it.

More out of hope than expectation.

Short clearly wants out and is I’m imagine the reported price reduction reflects this.

Good luck.

Signed it this morning simply because it's an easy way to say "not f***ing happy". Little things like this and the fan having a go at Bain at the game last Saturday at least show we aren't entirely apathetic. I appreciate it may make zero difference to Short but it feels better than doing nowt. Self help for battered Sunderland fans.
