Onions called up for Lions

Bunny been called up to the Lions squad in Sri Lanka, sadly it is to replace Mark Wood who is injured. A bit surprised really Onions has played plenty of cricket this winter and are England really going to find out anything they don't already know about him.
James Whitaker has said about Wood that he has returned to Durham to get fit for the start of the domestic season which is a bit of a worry as it is still over 2 months away.

Would tell them to fuck off and come back when they've doscovered a little respect

If his stint is finished with the Dolphins in South Africa, i was just thinking does that mean Benks should be back at the Riverside sometime soon if he is according to the club returning to Durham.

I would agree with that but onions, the best bowler in the country, deserved to be picked on merit ahead of plodders and trundlers like Bresnan, finn, tremlett and the irish kid whose name escapes me.

He also deserves better than being sent on the reserves tour. This isnt a lad who is an inknown quantity that they want to have a look at, he is the best bowler in the CC who has had success at internstional level.

And as for a divine right to be picked, the prosecution calls Mr J. dernbach

Played only about 12 days cricket for dolphins all winter

He isn't the best bowler in the country, Anderson is.

And I agree he should have gone. But he didn't take his chance in NZ or against the West Indies especially. So it wasn't cut and dried.

Dernbach is dogshit yeah, but if onions had been picked ahead of him you would have had a hissy fit because onions isn't a one day bowler

Great, he'll hit the ground running for Durham. Hopefully he'll show his class and give the selectors no option but to pick him.

What chance did Finn take to be on the Ashes tour?

A one armed blind person is a better one day bowler than dernbach so thats harsh on bunny

I agree with this to be honest. A few month ago I wouldn't have done, however the ECB have shown themselves to be a set of absolute f***ing wankers this winter and I really despair at the thought our three best players could be all gone for most of the County summer.

In fact, looking at the fixtures I think it was nearer 8 days cricket

Shoiab played more cricket for us

Some success for Benks already though - the dolphins just won the 2020 cup

Onions would be perfectly within his rights to tell them to fuck off, absolutley ridiculous he didnt get picked for Ashes ahead of the likes of Rankin.

Also from Englands point of view what does it really achieve picking him for the Lions? Surely the Lions should be used a means to get a good look at younger players, give them experience of international cricket and all that.

I'll bet Onions is very bemused by this but if he snubs the Lions there's probably every chance his full England career will be ended abruptly.

We've seen what happens if you don't kow-tow to the England hierarchy.

He didn't go to Australia and will probably be past it by the time the next Ashes comes around, and he isn't in any of the one day squads for any big tournaments. How much Test match bowling will he get away from home, or even at home if last summer was anything to go by?

I hope he tells them to stick it up their arse tbh.

He's likely been told it's a fitness exercise to be on standby to the upcoming tour

He's not had all that much cricket in SA
