Basically what the quote from their president said. Had to accept a lowball amount on one of their best players, so they can register other players.

I don’t understand it. Don’t all leagues have requirements like this? Like we can’t sign players we can afford. If they want to register more players or buy more, they have to sell assets to achieve that?

In Spain they buy whoever they like, but they can't actually register them to play unless the books sufficiently balance - especially in terms of wages.

I’m not sure I follow. Any sensible club is only going to sign players that they can afford to register (I know Barca sometimes don’t!)

What’s his issue? They need to raise funds to afford other players? If they need the money from the sale, that’s like any club.

What are the player registration rules in La Liga?
To register players, Barcelona will have to adhere to the 1:1 rule under the league’s Financial Fair Play. This means that the club can only spend on sports salaries as much as its income and accounts allow.

  • It will have to generate more income than expenses each year.
  • Maintain a positive net worth (have more assets than debts).
  • Avoid excessive indebtedness in relation to income.

Why cannot Barcelona register players?

Barcelona is unable to register players because it has reportedly already crossed over the La Liga salary limit, with authorities saying that last season (2024-25), the club spent more money on transfer fees and wages than what it received from revenue.
