Old badge tattoo

Thinking of getting a sunderland tattoo to incorporate the old badge. Looking at images of badges/tattoos there seems to be a difference with the background colour around the Sunderland text. I know it was black originally so I'll stick with that. I've also seen some differences in the colour of the ball. Should it be black or white?

The original ball was brown. The original image was full colour.

The background colour round the ship and Sunderland should always be blue. The original ball was brown but personally I think the black ball looks better. Make sure you get a proper version as there are a load of variations of it
That's why I'm checking. Didn't realise there were so many variations

Speaking of this, can anyone recommend somewhere good to get one done on your calf?

I’ve got tattoos but they aren’t colour and the lad who did mine, although brilliant, specialises in black/blue.

Funny enough, when it was introduced, the badge on the 72/73 programmes had the badge with the black background and white ball that was used from 1990 to 1993 - probably due to printing costs
Logon or register to see this image
It's a 100% printing costs, I was a printer for about 20 years. That programme is only 2 colour rather than 4, half the price of ink / plates / machinery.

I use Tom (@tom.tildeath on Instagram) at Black Widow in Castletown, he’s spot on like. Never been anywhere else to be honest.
Just don’t get the tattoo on your calf or you’ll have to wear shorts for the rest of your life, I’m sure it’s the law.
Can confirm you are correct.
