Us. We’re in the Championship, Portsmouth aren’t and O’Brien’s playing League One football for Shrewsbury.
but thats now..the deal was in january until season end...
safc paid for defoe and got nothig from him..he didnt contribute to ptomotion in any way..
in fact aiden o brien scored a league goal for safc in the prmotion winning season..so contributed more than defoe to it..and you swopped defoe for him...

We offloaded a crap striker and it didn’t hurt us. Defoe didn’t work out, that’s unrelated to O’Brien and his quality (or lack of).

if they become first chocie players...that would make them champoionship standard...just being signed to a club doesnt make the championship standard..proving they are good enough to start fir a championship team makes them good enough a championship team..thats why i refrred to the number of games played by o brien in the championship..not number of years he was signed to a club in the championship..
so what does that make gooch ?

it is not unrelated...defoe wasnt playing for free you know...and o brien would have scored more than him.
safcwere made mugs of by defoe...
Ifs and buts whether O’Brien would have scored any. Almost everyone would have taken Defoe over O’Brien in January, we took the chance, Defoe didn’t work out but we didn’t seem to miss the one goal in 4.75 games O’Brien either.

Your wasting your time discussing it mate, he’s never wrong.

One thing for sure we wouldn’t have been promoted if we had to rely on AoB, he was awful for us, obviously has done better elsewhere but I can only comment on what I saw and he wasn’t any good. Won’t fault his effort and wish him well but in reality he has swopped one average League 1 club for another, while we kicked on without him regardless of the lack of contribution from Defoe.

aye...we got a cracking dealll defoe got wages for basically no work and fucjed off early..
obrien got lots of games and a reaonable number of goals at his new shop

but your comparison was with the current safcteam not defoe,...

We got promoted. No idea if that would have happened if we hadnt made that move. We know it happened when we did. Therefore it was the right decision.

I mean youre not factoring in that time against Gillinham when Obrien got brought on for Pritchard and we drew 0.0

It didnt happen because we sold him. It could have

We have moved on. He is not what we needed. Somebody somewhere recognised it. AOB is a thing of the past and possibly dislikes the fact that we have maneged to get to a level he will never get to again. We just need to move forward

What about all the shirt/merchandise sales in China following Defoe signing?

He’s shite man, fair play put in a shift but no where near good enough for where we wanted to get to.

Although, signing Defoe appeared to be a catalyst for Johnson leaving and, consequently, getting in Neil. Subsequently, that meant promotion and Donald reducing his shares, and Methven leaving altogether. Whatever Defoe cost, it was cheap...

reuslts meant johsnon would be going anway..if safc is so badly run they fire a head coach because he doesnt want a player chosen by an owner..then enjoy the pronition we just had..there wont be many ore as we are that badly run

well he cant be delued for thinking he is better if he has actually had a better offer...that implies he was validated in thinking he could do better.
he would have done more for safc over the last six months than defoe did..the consensus on here was defoe was better option..it was a consensus view that was wrong

They were two different decisions. One doesn’t make the other right or wrong. There are so many variables involved it’s a pointless comparison. In particular when you consider neither contributed anything of note to SAFC before of after the window.
Frankly your talking about two failures who we didn’t need to achieve our problems objectives

but they werent seperate decisions..not really..because the vclubs wage buidget isnt infinite and because speakman says they assign a bidget to each position...so a defoe arriving changes the budget for the position..as does an o brien leaving

Bit like The Rat.

@kildaremackem having an absolute mare on this thread. I usually don’t mind him but he’s way off the mark here. O’Brien was shit for us. He flattered to deceive and I did defend him Whilst he was here as he could play football, however in the main he had absolutely no say in games and is not a player who is going to help you get promoted.

Lower league one is probably his level
