To sum up, on the whole he put in a decent amount of effort and technically he could look okay receiving the ball but when it came to the next bit he just always seemed to not quite manage to do whatever he was attempting.

2 ways to gauge his level

a) when put clear through on goal, how confident were you he would score ?

b) a team made up of O’Brien level players, where would it finish in l1 ?

For me a) would be 2/10 and b) would be 16th ish

In a nutshell that's it. Not a bad lad but nowhere near good enough for what we need.

Why do we feel the need to slag our players off on here? Always seemed to try, good luck to the lad.

I know it’s like people think it’s a fictional character in some soap opera. Fans constantly forgetting we a third division team and attract lower league players.
That another team in this league are interested in him tells you everything about what LJ has achieved in building the quality in this team.
Good luck to the lad and thanks for the effort but he’s not good enough for us and where we are going.

He was going to be a cult hero according to you

I said he might be on account of how Championship Millwall fans loved him and his ability to chip in with important goals when they were promoted, as well as being an Ireland international. He hasn't lived up to what I had hoped but he's clearly valued and respected within the club by the manager and his team mates who had taken us top of the league on Thursday night with a 5-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday. If some on here don't value or respect him and would like to use him to point score, it says more about them than him.

Grafter and seems a decent bloke so nothing against him.

Very limited tho and sums up the Donald & Parky clusterfuck approach to transfers so hopefully he’s away
he has a promotion on his CV though....and the cretinous multitudes on here think thats importat or something..

not good enough unfortunately, nowhere near good enough. Seeing is name in our starting line up is soul destroying for me, up there with George Dobson

Probably a fair summary.
I wonder why it hasn't worked out for him as on paper he was a very decent signing

Better player than many on here, and at the matches, give him credit for. His ball control close up was excellent for this level, very clever with his feet but ultimately will be judged on goals scored (not saying that's wrong).

Letting him go before we get a decent replacement may prove costly but I wish him all the best, we and him, move on.

As said a million times, lad put effort in but didn't really produce whilst here. Whether that's cause he didnt fit the system, wasn't good enough or whatever else.

Think he could play at this level and be decent enough in a team that focuses on working hard and trying to grind out results, he just doesn't fit at all for us, .ore so now than ever. He's not clinical in front of goal, ist a rear pass, is t particularly good positionally, he can cause a nusiance and drag players out of position and will put a shift in so that could be good for another team.

Still hope he's going though, he'll be on very good wages and we could use them better elsewhere and he doesn't bring much to the table for us

Unfortunately probably still going to be costing us part of his wage as I doubt there is any other club in this league can afford the wage we are paying him. So while it's lovely that our fans are wishing him well for the future we should remember he is still costing us and like the majority of times when he played for us we'll be getting nothing in return.

He was ok, and put a shift in. I remember the Portsmouth 0-4 this season where he was the only one I can think of who didn’t give up before half time.

Having said that, I’m not gutted he’s off but I wish him all the best anyway.

No you didn't. You said ‘He's going to be a real cult hero’

Going to be, is for definite
might be, is the possibility of

And what did you say? Or are you just negative about every signing we make?
Supporters support. They don't write players off before they've kicked a ball just to say I told you so

Fume on Fume situation, fans fuming about fans fuming at how poor the O’Brien signing turned out to be.

We signed a player from the championship and gave him a wage in line with that but he turned out to look more like a l2 player, however the player at all times showed a good level of application.

To be able to point out how bad a signing it was fans will inevitably have to criticise the ability of the player which can be seen as unfair but that’s football and O’Brien will walk away with a decent financial reward so it’s fair enough.

It’s not the player’s fault, it’s not the fans fault but it is the fault of the owners and recruitment team in place at that time.
