Oatcake not happy again (at us again)

Mental really, and doesn't hide the fact that you are hemorrhaging money.
Most clubs in the Championship lose a ton of money - we are above the mean. Most clubs outside of the big 6 lose a ton of money too, none more so than the likes of Brighton who are held up as a beacon for us all to follow. Their very own money expert, Mr Maguire, has warned their fanbase on multiple occasions that they are solely reliant on Tony Bloom and that it isn't sustainable. Their transfers have been superb recently too.

That's modern football. A money pit and a fruitless chase to nowhere for clubs like ours.

To be fair if i was mega rich I’d happily give as much money to safc as was wanted / needed / allowed

I’d rather watch SAFC flourish
than prance around on a yacht in montecarlo or Dubai

I don’t think they’ve used much thought and consideration in how they’ve spent it like but I dare say that’s at the hands of whoever they’ve employed as a director of sports or whatever the Speakmann / Dan Ashworth type of job title is
Well they are....and they're not...

Nothings really going on other than what I said previously on a few other threads a few weeks/months ago. We were in a false position earlier in the season when we were 2nd. Our xG for and against had us in and around 10th-12th and we were always going to regress to the mean.

Our squad is unbalanced in places and Robins has performed miracles to get us as high as we were.

Where we are currently is no fit full backs at all meaning centre halves filling in, our most creative midfielder recovering from surgery and no real back up to our first choice wingers, who are knackered. Our centre forward options are limited.

As a club we've been in a large boom/bust cycle that has seen us badly juggle FFP along with hiring and firing managers. It eases again next summer and we can spend but I would like to see the club spend differently this time. Put the brakes on old domestic players and invest in younger players from abroad and at home. We have a new, ex Southampton recruitment guy in who we need to back and give him time to get the data right.

Is Robins under pressure? He had a go at the fans for booing Divin Mubama last night and as you'd expect, it's gone down like a lead balloon so if results don't turn expect another forced change of manager soon (sigh).

Ultimately they are nothing short of bone heads. Booing a 19 year old lad off the pitch. Robins was spot on to call them out for it.

Where we are currently in the cycle is where I'd expect us to be. We need to stick with the manager and help him through this little injury forced rut. We'll be stronger for it, but I'm not holding my breath after last night.

Well balanced view.
You deffo need to buy younger and probably foreign cos they’re cheaper.
You need a good youth set up to bolster your squad options.
It’s doable over a span of 3 years, just look at us!

We've started doing that and started to turn a profit over the last few seasons but as ever it takes time and you always get a few wrong along the way. The problem is the fanbase are restless after 7 years of poor performance and the pressure wracks up on the club every window to find that quick fix, which as we all know just doesn't exist. We have a few foreign lads in the side at the moment that are struggling to settle, but have talent. They set us back 6M or so which is a lot of money when you are PSR restricted. Longer term they may pay off but thats the trade off. You can't expect 22 and 23 year old lads to come in from the Slovakian league and League 2 in France and hit the ground running. Of course the normal arguments are being bandied around about the likes of Kieffer Moore - 'why didn't we go for him?' Maybe because he was 33 and cost upwards of 2.5M - dead money. A road we've been down too many times before.

It's a fine balancing act that is tricky to do from where we are. League One is the way to go to clear the decks and bring in a number of younger lads and build but I wouldn't be so keen to go down that road. We'd end up stuck there for 5 years or more. I'd rather a few extra years in the middle of the Championship.
