Keep Stoneman for now, literally beg Cook not to retire.
Livingstone in at 3, Malan has done more than enough. Vince should have been nowhere near the team anyway.
If they think Mason Crane is the man then give him a proper run, all of 2018 if need be.

Cook
Stoneman
Livingstone
Root
Malan
Stokes
Bairstow
Woakes/Ali
Broad
Crane
Anderson

He just doesn't seem to want to learn, I dunno what it is with him, but I think his time has come and gone.

I wouldn't be outraged if they dropped Stoneman either, but he's still in the might/might not (probably closer to might not) have it category IMO. I hear a few whispers that Lancs are expecting to be without Hameed for quite a lot of the summer hence the signing of Keats, so maybe that's the plan.

I would dump Curran as he looks woefully short, but Overton is worth another look if Stokes doesn't play.

Can't see them dropping Broad on 399 like.

Keep stoneman, I gave vince the benefit for this tour but enough is enough. If hameed is in good nick have stoneman at 3. Crane deserves a good run. Woakes, broad, Jimmy. Modern deserves to stay in the mix. You've got about 4 second string bowlers to take in the squad with Roby toland Jones and overton and curran.

Openers - Cook, Stoneman & Jennings

Batsmen - Root, Malan, Stokes & Burns

WK - Bairstow & Foakes

Spin - Ali & Crane

Bowlers - Anderson, Broad, Wood, Overton, Roland-Jones & Woakes

Could possibly drop Ali for this one mind but who should we take instead?

Burns is an opener and Stokes is still not available

What has Jennings done to deserve a place

From the very little I've seen and heard about Burns I'd take him as a number 3.

Hopefully Stokes does become available in time!

@chopsfc007
Not a lot to be honest but I don't know what the other candidates have done either.

Burns looks good but I'd possibly have him at number 3 for now.

Haven't seen much of Northeast but scores a lot of runs and has captained Kent for a few years. Depending on conditions and Ali's form, Patel to bat at 6. I'm not sure much will needed from a spinner in NZ with a four man pace attack. Malan or Jennings to bat at 3.

I haven't been at all impressed with Crane and don't think he is ready for test cricket at all. Though I would love to see England play a spinner in all conditions, I don't think it's him.

Could take Lawerence as an extra batsmen, I'm not sure if offers much with his spin to play Ali's role but it doesn't take much to outbowl him in this form. I also like Donald at Glamorgan but another one who is perhaps not ready and hasn't really done anything in county cricket.

I would like to see a few new faces but I not sure that will happen. It would be typical if one of the casualties of this series was Ballance. Apparently Wood had been retained from the Lions with a view to taking some part in the last 2 tests but he decided he was not fit enough, it will be interesting to see if he makes the tour.

When you look at that Lions squad that was in Australia then there is not a lot coming through and the fact that most of us on here thought Plunkett should have made the Ashes squad kind of sums up that there is a lack of genuine quality coming through.

No.

Cook
Stoneman
Root
Malan
Bairstow
Stokes
Modern
Plunkett
Roland-Jones
Broad
Anderson

Foakes
Woakes
Crane
Livingstone

They won't take Plunkett, Jake Ball will be selected instead. Stokes will be named in the squad then replaced with Curran. Vince will be retained as he looks nice and scored 80 odd in the first test. They'll add Toby and that's about it
