In your 100 and odd year history you've had about 7 or 8 seasons playing in Europe so it's been more of a rare thing than a constant
Probably, you are young and don’t realise you went down the wrong avenue for a point of argument.

The 100 year reference is spurious because European football has only existed about 65 years and according to Wikipedia Newcastle have played 16 seasons in European competition with 122 fixtures.

Indeed they even won a European trophy and are one of only 11 or 12 English clubs to do so.

So not really consistent

Look, I get that the point of a NUFC thread on a Sunderland message board is to denigrate them.

There are hills to take the high ground in the great feud but you risk making a prat of yourself if you choose European football as your particular battle hill. Take that as friendly advice.

The mags on here bored us with this rubbish throughout 2020 - the upshot was the mags enjoyed numerous European mini-breaks which I am envious of. However, the sum total was zero trophies (thank goodness for Drogba). They go on like they are some European super-power when the reality is they had two Champions League seasons in '97-98 and '02-03.

Since the first European invitation in 1968-69 the mags have been in Europe 17 times and out of Europe 36 times. 12 of the 17 coming in that great run from '95-'07. But that is 14 years ago! It is statements from @Wolfbeard saying they won't be happy until back in Europe that make you look stupid. I've a load of Evertonian mates, who support a club that has actually won a European trophy, and not once have I heard them come out with such tripe.

The norm for Newcastle is to not be in Europe. Fecking accept it.
