The absolute state on this.
Cathedral on the hill gets a mention.

It's a tough and utterly cringe-inducing watch that mind. Ugh. I feel dirty.

1% 10% 0% it doesn't matter - all clubs imo should have a fans elected representative on the board. Even if they are largely ignored they can put the fans views across and keep everyone in the loop with what's going on.

This won't work (the fundraising) but it doesn't change the fact it's not a bad idea. The video is cringeworthy but the fact that the club is nothing without the fans is true of every single club.

"I've said this before but I think that when Mike Ashley sells Newcastle United the only thing worth selling is its fanbase. Without the fans the club is worthless.

How about being in the Prem with a guaranteed 100m? That is worth something or even relegated 55m and then 45m in parachute payments. The only reason fans are there now is that it looks shite on TV otherwise.
As an asset, yes. As a football club, being a turd that won't flush is pointless.

I agree 100% but buying a stake in the club is not necessary and it won't help to get a fans rep onto the board.

I agree with this too, however I do like the idea of having a fan collected amount of money that's stockpiled in case things ever really do go massively tits up. If ppl who can chipped in an extra £5 or whatever every year and just wrote it off as an extra fiver on a season ticket for example, it would be nice to know that comfort blanket was there meaning we could still exist even if the worst happebed.

Rubbish. 95% of clubs may as well pack in then
I think you've misunderstood, I'm not saying "If you're not challenging, you're worthless". I'm saying that targeting survival as the limit of your ambition is worthless. There are very few clubs who's sole aim for the short and long term is simply survival. Fewer still who have the resources to aim for more.

Mike Ashley genuinely couldn't give a toss if we finished 7th or 17th. He doesn't worry about a long term plan because, as long as we stay up, the job's done. And you know what, either give a toss and try to make Newcastle United the best it can be, or don't give a toss and concede control of where the agreed budget is spent, either is fine.
But this middle ground where he doesn't care, but won't let a manager get on with it, it's no way to run a business. Hence the 2 relegations, hence the churn of managers, hence the fan discord, etc.

You're right.

I don't think clubs like either of ours would reach that stage, I think being bought out after administration is pretty much the worst case scenario. Too much of a following for there to not be a buyer eventually.

Ashley would never take you into that position anyway, no matter how shit he is as a club owner, he's not got you in a bad financial state.

That's a pretty small blanket.
